Anyone used Restored Razors (Dave Glynn) in NZ

As the title says has anyone used the restoration/Replating service offered by them ? If so what are they like in terms of communication ? Only asking as I have tried to ask them a few questions about the service they offer but never seem to get a response and am loathe to send my razor out to them despite having read good reviews about them. Any help gratefully appreciated

Dave Glynn replated a few razors from me when he was based in the UK and his work was excellent. I seem to recall that on one occasion he did take a while to get back in touch with me when I asked a question, but I believe that was because he had other calls on his time - family commitments, work, or something like that. There was nobody else to answer my question because as far as I know there is no "them", just Dave.

What kind of razor is it? I've had a couple done by Prestige Electroplating in Mexborough, they did a great job and were very reasonably priced. They're not razor specialists though so they can do a three-piece but Dave would be a better bet for a TTO.

I'm also a happy customer of Dave's, it's a shame he's emigrated.

I've talked to Dave (now that he's a Kiwi), and he doesn't dismantle the TTO razors.
The razors get an ultrasonic bath first (which 'should' remove most of the gunk from up inside the handle of the Slim).
The old plating is then chemically stripped before the new layer is applied.
Sounds easy!

I'm late to the party here, but Dave restored a Gillett Fatboy for me a few years ago, it was excellent! Really shiny, and still as good today as when I got it back. Yep, a bit slow on comms but when in the UK, he had a proper job and razor restoration was a sideline!

Hi all,

Just saw this thread and yes the razor restoration is just a hobby but I do take 100% responsibility for restorations. If slow in responding it's because I'm away, working as a Project Manager or other stuff that gets in the way. Just started making shaving soaps brushes and straight razors as 'The Auckland Razor Company' and restorations of course.

To answer some questions on the thread

1. I do remove the end cap, centre rod and doors for replating. Any more dismantling is totally unnecessary unless the razor is damaged and in need of repair.

2. Any adjustment is done as part of the job, it would be irresponsible not to.

3. Turnaround time is about 3 weeks from receipt of your razor, postage from NZ can take around 6 to 10 days to UK or USA

Hope this helps.

Best wishes from Middle Earth

Dave

It sounds like you're the man Dave

I’ve just joined the forum so I can revive this thread in order to say thanks! I was looking for someone to restore a Fatboy and an Aristocrat de luxe and following the recommendations on this thread I sent them to Dave in NZ who did a fantastic job at a really good price, so I would add the highest possible recommendation for the quality of his work.
This is what they look like now (amazing!):
