Your blade preferences for Rockwell 6S...

Hi all,

This is my first thread as a newbie here!

I'm still quite new to DE shaving, having only been shaving this way for a few months.

I've just bought a Rockwell 6S, having read lots of good reviews on them. I guessed it'll give me more flexibility to find the right setting and blade gap to suit me.

So far I've been using the Muhle R106 and ES Outlaw, both of which I really like. I just wanted to progress to a razor offering adjustment of settings.

So, after all that waffle, my question is, what do you all recommend as your blade preferences? I'll be starting on plate setting 3, for info...

Thanks in advance

Hi and welcome to TSR!

Blades are very subjective but there's almost universal love for the Russian PPI blades: Gillette Platinum, Silver Blue, Rubie, 7 O'clock Super Stainless, 7 O'clock Sharp Edge, Nacet, Perma-Sharp.

Some of the Indian blades are also great: Gillette Winner, Super Platinum and Gillette Wilkinson Sword.

A good starting point may be a sample pack from Connaught Shaving if you're in the UK. Alternatively there's Gemstone Trading, Razor Blades Club and a number of smaller sellers on eBay.

I'd say whatever blades you've been using for those, I'd use in the Rockwell. IMO, when starting new I'd try to keep the variables as fixed as possible while you are still developing your technique.

As for blades, it's difficult to recommend to your needs as your needs are defined by your growth, eg thickness, type of hair and how many days worth of growth will you shave, but all the ones that Boycie recommended are all ones I really like and I personally think it's difficult to look past if you are looking for recommendations.

If you don't want to buy a whole pack of blades at a time (eg 5 and more), then Razor Blades Club is a good to buy blades as it's possible to buy blades individually. If you do buy blades from there I'd recommend a few more, eg Bic Chrome Platinum, Lord Classic Stainless (Green packet), Personna Lab Blue, Treet Platinum, Astra Platinum & Stainless, Voskhod.

Thanks for your replies!

I've now ordered a tonne of different blades from eBay, to work through (probably enough to last me a lifetime!) as they're so relatively cheap to buy in comparison with cartridges. A lot of the blades you've mentioned, I've ordered, which is a good thing! So I'll work through them and try to grade them, specific to me.

Thanks for your advice and welcoming comments, gents!
