Yates Razors

They are an American artisan new to the market with good reviews. I have no affiliation and as well am a dedicated Gillette Tech aficionado with little or no interest in artisan razors whatsoever. Just an FYI.

They're selling their new shorter handles for $55 with a new top cap included for free.

UPD: sold out in 15 minutes. Oh, well...

West Coast Shaving have them in stock and provide a spare brass SB/OC plate with it as well.

I've got one on its way to me - it'll take a couple of weeks to get here and I expect I'll take a customs hit on it. I'm looking forward to it arriving, though.

My razor finally arrived in the UK today and took less time to arrive from WCS than I thought it would.

I tried the original M plate this evening with a Rapira Platinum Lux and had a smooth, pleasurable, mellow and issue free shave.

The razor didn't feel as aggressive as I had feared after reading some reviews on other forums.

I really like the stonewashed finish and I enjoyed using the original handle. I tend to prefer longer handles and this was right up my street. The thinner width helps make it very nicely balanced and light in the hand. I had zero issues with grip.

The razor also lives up to to precision part of the name. It has clearly been very well made and the tolerances are spot on.

All in all, this struck me as being a very well made and thought out razor design. I can't wait to try out the hybrid brass plate that came with it soon.

I've sold an SS version and assembled this one in Brass. Had a great shave with an H plate today:

Mr. vates, as one cannot help but notice the striking resemblance to Merkur re the scallops, what IYO sets this Yates razor apart (if indeed anything) from the myriad of others? I mean shave quality of course.

Well, can't really see how it's similar to Merkur: the geometry is rather different. I can find more similarities between Merkur, DE89 and, say, Blackbird. I have some experience with the former two and to me Yates is both more efficient and more... coherent.
At the end of the day, all DE razors look pretty similar and it is possible to shave with any blade holder. It's just some of them are more suited to your anatomy, skin and stubble type, body chemistry, and mindset.
