"Woke" Gillette Loses $8 Billion!!

yep i didnt care about the ads one way or the other. i use some old gillette de but i use other stuff too... no i wasnt saying just stay the same but changes can be done with a bit of common sense also. the wet shave market is growing again as people ( kids included) realize they dont need a razor cartridge that cost a small fortune when they can get cheap blades and pop then in just as quickly as you can switch a cartridge blade... well i gave up politics and whatnot so im gonna let this lie... i understand some were offended and some were not. gillette will either recover or they wont and personally it doesnt matter to me one way or the other.
Agreed! Makes no difference to most of us haha

So a company choose to patronisingly lecture their potential (and existing) customer base on politically correct and moral grounds to increase market sales. Does this indicate that their own "values" are so elastic they would happily endorse any point of view which was currently popular ?
They used to be in the business of making and selling shaving products, it's not a fashion statement or opportunity for a CEO to 'virtue signal' how achingly right on he is at the shareholders' expense.

Lecture? They called their customer base a bunch of rat bastards and then kicked them in the shorts.

This little virtue signalling exercise was brought to us courtesy of Carolyn Tastad, the president of Proctor & Gamble's North American business unit. Gary Coombe might be one of her subordinates, in which case his hands are tied. Gillette also found a way to erase the $8 billion loss. The article linked in the OP now reads:

Gillette CEO: Losing customers over #MeToo campaign is 'price worth paying'

CORRECTION: The Washington Examiner has updated this story to remove the suggestion that Gillette lost $8 billion due to its #MeToo-inspired advertising campaign. We regret that this article did not adhere to the Washington Examiner 's normal standards and procedures.

It looks like the Washington Examiner caved to pressure from Procter & Gamble. Here is the article as it originally appeared:

At least the European executives still know how to sell product. Maybe this was how Gillette erased the $8 billion loss so quickly?
