Wireless Network Printer Problems.

I have a wireless router with printer + PC attached, bit I have to keep reinstalling the driver's more often than I'd like when printing from a wireless laptop. Doesn't seem to be a problem when printing from the PC...I've tried the latest drivers and both are running Vista, any suggestions this is beginning to bug me?

Is the printer appearing as a windows shared printer (\\router\printer) or a TCP/IP printer?

If it's the former, it could be that the router is expecting NTLM type 1 authentication but getting type 2 by default from the PC.

If it's the latter - I have no idea what it could be - that's how mine are set up and work seamlessly, although my printers are attached to HP JetDirect and a Intel NetPort...

it is difficult without knowing a little more about your set up, but I think it may be a DHCP problem. If you turn the printer on and off again it is likley to pick up a new IP address the dektop drivers could be coping with this fine discovering the printer through netbios or similar, and the laptop is having problem.

If this is the problem configure the printer with a static IP address and all will work.

If im tlaking in tongues I apologise.

Thanks chaps.

I set it up as a TCP/IP printer, seems to working for the moment. Arrrgghhh.

EDIT: I turned off "Network discovery" in Network and Sharing Centre and it seems to have done the trick. Don't know why.
