Hunny, are you certain the P&G stuff sold here is still made in England? From what I can make out, the bottle infers German manufacture but hey, if you're absolutely sure that's good enough for me.

It carefully avoids stating where it's manufactured... but the perfumes division of P&G is based in Schwalbach-am-Taunus in Germany, hence the address on the packaging... last I heard from someone involved in the business (December last year) - "old mice" is still made in Seaton Delaval (the old Shultons plant)

Old Mice...:icon_lol:

Thanks for the confirmation, sir.

For what it's worth the fragrance is good for a solid 12 hours with just the standard drop splashed into the palm of my hand before applying to my face :)

Do we take it that you've never smoked?

I smoked for around 20 years, on and off. Started after planting myself in a ditch at 70+, I'd been on a motorcycle up until a few seconds earlier, mud isn't good for tarmac tyres, sort of shot my nerves up a bit... :(

I stopped in 2003, so I've been 'clean' for 11 years now, while I was smoking I was stopped for more then half the time, I just was't very good at staying stopped :D

Any particular reason you ask oh venerable one?

Your sense of smell would seem to be so much keener than mine. I wonder if I buggered mine with so many years of heavy smoking and engine room fumes. Seems like there is a range of smell 'frequencies' that I can't detect whilst oud and woods enter my very core.

Engine Room?? You a Merchant Mariner then?

FWIW My sense of smell is quite poor for many scents, I used to box (amateur) and failed to 'duck & weave' a few times so my nose doesn't work quite like it ought to, happily it still looks straight, but the innards would disagree :D

Our supplier provides us with number three from Germany so I'm guessing this is the common saleable old spice on the high street

That's hilarious considering for the European market that it's made, bottled and packaged in Seaton Delaval, near Whitley Bay (you'll detect that neither name us desperately Teutonic) ;)

Sadly no longer:

"The village has its own independent cooperative, the Seaton Valley Co-Operative Society, which runs a small supermarket, post office and off-licence. There are also several convenience stores and public houses, such as The Keel Row pub/restaurant on Foreman's Row. The other, mainly independent stores include a regionally-renowned ice cream parlour, hardware store, pine furnishing store, motor parts store, florist and garage.

Procter & Gamble has a factory in the village, once the independent Shultons factory. Shultons formerly manufactured Old Spice aftershave before Procter & Gamble's acquisition of the brand. The factory is now employed in the manufacture of Clairol hair dye products, including Nice 'n Easy, as well as the Hugo Boss fragrance range." Wiki

FWIW I bouht a bottle from India off Ebay and received an excellent smelling piece of wrapping paper with some broken glass inside - the seller didn't bother to box it and then wouldn't refund. Eventually got it back through Ebay's guarantee.

I be retired now but I was an Engineer Cadet rising rapidly through the ranks to Chief Engineer. Thirteen years C/E, four months on, four months off - brilliant - but the disappearance of the British Merchant Navy put paid to that. Came ashore and worked as Fleet Superintendent and then Manager for a few years. Never made Director. Semi-retired, mostly going walk-about and finally fully retired seven years ago. That is a lot of sniffing diesel fumes in a life time!

You forgot to mention liking to be called 'Captain', after the famous P.W. Herman buddy Captain Carl. For any members not knowing who that is, here you go:

He says that because he knows of my position in the traditional deck vs engine tension - and ex-MN Captains who use the title ashore. Actually, they never were Captains, they were Masters. And some still are, of course - just not many Brits among them.

Sheesh! I was typing in the right thread but forgot what I was there for in the first place!

I have just "won"/bought a bottle of Old Spice with a lot left in it. The bottle has a square rigger and a white plug so what does that make it in terms of age or date or vintage-ness, please? Does anybody know?

I also have one the same except with a grey stopper and ring. Where does that fit into the picture, does anyone know? Older? Younger? than the white stoppered one.

Before I put it in the BST, anyone want a Indian OS Lime shulton?

100ml new unopened plastic red bottle. £6 + whatever p&p is.

☆☆☆THIS HAS NOW GONE☆☆☆

It's a good thing i came across this thread, flying back to the native land in a few weeks, i must get a bottle and other bits of OS if i come across.

Does the name 'Smylie' or something not too far from that mean anything to you, Jack - as in a sniffer tube for clearing your nostrils, like a Vick's sniffer here? I've long since run out and can't find them online anywhere - wrong spelling probably. Anyway, if you know them, would you mind bringing a couple back for me, please? I think it's ayurvedic.

There is a lot of things that get sniffed around where i come from :icon_wink: but i'll keep my eye open and will get you some if i find what you mean.

Many thanks! Small street stalls and roaming vendors used to carry it. I expect shops did, too.

I saw they also sell Old Spice shaving cream in India.

I just bought some of this, it does smell of Old Spice but I keep detecting another smell that comes through every now and then. I can't for the life of me think what going by the ingredients. It lathers OK and gives a decent shave but I don't think it is something I would buy again, even with it being cheap to buy.
