Which Wolfman?

I've been lucky enough to get onto the waiting list and wonder if anyone can point me in the direction of the setup I should go for?
I love my Rockwell 6S on plate 3 and want something in the same ballpark.
I fancy trying an OC but what blade gap would you recommend?

DE Convert are you talking WR1 or WR2? They are different beasts.
If WR2 I reckon the standard .95 (or for just a tad more efficiency get the 1.05).
WR1 as I've read it's more forgiving with the angle of attack.
I had a Feather AS-D2 which although it was a great razor, I found that the angle was so specific it was difficult to get a very close shave without loads of touch-ups causing irritation. My technique was probably part of it but I persevered for a few months and still couldn't quite get it right.
Correct me if I'm wrong!

I like a smooth shave too, but must also leave no stubble. Timeless .68 OC at the moment is my main razor, but have ordered the WR2 1.15 OC as I want something between the Timeless .68 OC and .95 OC.
I have read that the WR2 is smoother particularly in SB.

I have a wolfman wr2 SB 1.05, I definitely wouldn't go more aggrasive as I do feel some blade feel, but it's not to much so it's still smooth, but I think it's important to have good technique and a really light touch to use. I'm sure you will love it whatever you go for

My WR2 arrived a few weeks ago. I bought a DC plate with 1.15 SB/OC.
It shaves very nicely. Certainly closer than the Timeless .68 OC I have.
But...my new stainless Karve arrived just before the Wolfman.
For the Karve I went with #C and #D plates (both SB).
I 'think' the Karve #D is a whisker ahead of the WR2 in relation to closeness of shave.
But the WR2 is the smoothest of them all.
Where does that leave me?
I don't think I will bother with the wait list for another Wolfman (but...1.25 or 1.35 next time).
I am looking for a Karve #E plate for that really close but smooth shave.
I may sell the Timeless. Will bung it on the BST if I decide on that course of action.
None of which probably helps the OP, but may help other readers.

Hi there
reviving an old thread.

Being interested in Wolfman razors, I've read a lot on this and other forums.
Consensus is they are some of the best razors out there, smooth but very efficient.

My questions, for those who actually possess and use a Wolman:
- What is the blade feel? Do you feel or not?
- is it mild up to the highest gap values or just smooth and efficient?

Thanks!

Before I went and dropped a boatload of cash on one I would get honest with myself and ask why I really wanted one. If money is no object and it's purely a pride in ownership matter then proceed. However, if you think that somehow a lone machinist has discovered a new & novel way to a better shave then prepare to be disappointed for he hasn't. It won't shave you any "better". Blade gap/exposure is everything. Metal used & pretty polishing is merely aesthetic.

All the rave and hype got me curious and I started to read everything I could find across the forums. You are right and I am trying to get as detailed information I can to decide if it's worth the price or not. Unfortunately, I have no way to try-before-buy for such items.
I'm trying to get more "Blade gap/exposure" informations as I read about, apart from actual values, everything concerning the performance. For some it is mild, for other smooth, and yet some say they can feel the blade and other not. Confusing!

I've either had, or still have quite a few gaps of WR1 and WR2 razors. On the subject of blade feel, I would make the following statements...

* For the same gap, WR2 SB has much less blade feel for me than WR2 OC
* For the same gap, WR1 SB has the same blade feel for me as WR1 OC
* For the same efficiency, I would say WR2 has less blade feel than WR1
* I believed the hype and bought WR2 1.55 SB, but it's too much blade feel for me
* Ultimately the sweetspot for me has been WR2 1.25SB, which is incredibly efficient, with enough blade feel for control, but not too much
* WR1 is still nice to use, more manoeuvrable but it's just a normal razor, whereas the WR2 is "special" for me

Hope that helps. These are just my opinions.

@wintoid thanks for the info. Do you use the WR2 1.25SB as your daily shaver?

Like many people, I am constantly trying different things. I spent much of lockdown learning to use the Feather AC system. Last week, I was shaving daily with the 1.55mm Wolfman, trying to work out how it might work better for me.

Ultimately, the 1.25mm SB could be used every day for the rest of my life, and the shaves would be as good or better than anything. I get zero discomfort from it, and could shave several times a day if I wanted to.

So, the truthful answer is "sometimes" :)
