What sandalwood soap / cream would you recommend?

I thought I would expand / correct my post above, now that I've used the Fine Santal and the AOS tallow Sandalwood.

Scent: I can easily tell them apart, while they are both very nice to my nose, the Fine Santal has a spicy note,...

Just out of curiosity, have you smelled the D.R. Harris Sandalwood AS as well as the TOBS version? I like the former over the latter as it is more potent/pungent and lasts a lot longer than the latter. Does Fine Santal Absolut shaving soap smell like either one? o_O

No, it doesn't. Fine Santal Absolute has a stronger scent than Dr. Harris though but not quite as strong as the TOBS, also they are very different scents... TOBS is cologny and Fine is more of a dry scent.

Hi there,

Can't recall ever huffing that sandalwood version but coincidentally I just saw some what look like the older heavy glass jars of the C&E cream on ebay for an excellent price ( within the US shipping that is). Various flavored tubes also available.

No clue about performance or seller but dat's an option...........yeah, dat's an option.

Scent:I get a distinctive clay note in the AOS.

I am with you on noticing the somewhat distracting clay note that's not quite hidden in the background. Same kinda thing is going on with the C&S #88 soap.

TOBS doesn't have a true Sandalwood scent to my nose but it's by far my favorite of any out there that I've tried in sandalwood (GFT, T&H, AoS, and Proraso). These latter creams all smell pretty similar to me but the TOBS Sandalwood is my desert island pick of anything else out there.

Tobs Sandalwood scent is fantastic, it has been argued few times before, probably it is not a full on woody, natural sandalwood scent but it is wonderful and to be honest I find the scent very similar to Trumpers Spanish Leather.

I can second this, the TOBS Sandalwood is one of the nicest things I've ever smelt. It performs very well and the scent lasts through the shave.

I have been trying various Sandalwood soaps and creams, since I first bought a bottle of Prorazo Sandalwood aftershave.
What surprised me was how varied each maker of Sandalwood is.
My lest favourite Sandalwood soap/cream was Prorazo Red!
Whereas I love Tobs Sandalwood Luxury Hard Shaving Soap but what really surprised me was Tobs Solid Shaving stick.
It smells of a stronger Sandalwood scent than the Luxury Hard Shaving Soap. Yet both provide equal amounts of cushioning, glide and give a wonderful lather.

Your comment reminds me of my trip to TOBS in London some months ago, I also found the shaving stick of a higher scent strength than the hard soap, however, the the sales assistant insisted the soap was the same, perhaps there's a noticeable difference because the soap in stick form is better sealed and less scent scape the container.
I also found the soap slightly more floral than the cream.

TOBS stick container is really nice and works very well, on the other hand, DR Harris stick container seems rubbish to me, it's like it's going to brake well before I see the bottom of the soap. I decided to keep it open, with the lid on top..... you might think I was unlucky but I've seen the same problem with others.... in fact, there was one on BST with the bottom end already detached. I'll be visiting DR Harris shortly and I'll take the soap with me and see what they can suggest to fix the problem, probably nothing at all. They are shooting themselves in the foot with that cause the soap itself is wonderful.

I found the proraso, once on the face, the scent is very very similar to the Proraso AS. I loved the scent of the AS from the word go, however, the soap needed to grow on me :)
