What made your day a good one

A woman in the office had a sponsored sing for Charity, she raised over £2000 singing Val Doonican songs which included Delaney's donkey, Paddy McGintys Goat and a song about a car that was 40 shades of green. Haven't laughed so much in a long time. She put her heart and soul into those songs.
No video? :(

After 10 years of dripping tap ADSL from BT and marginal 4g coverage our neck of the backwoods has finally got fibre thanks to a goverment subsidised installation implemented by B4RN.

Internet speeds have gone from 10mb on a good day to 800mb on test yesterday and even faster uploads.

I varnished a garden bench today, varnish as opposed to stain, the varnish is very old fashioned, liquid from a tin that sticks hard to a wooden surface and very high gloss. The bad news is that it takes at least a day to dry and another day to stop being sticky.

... and another day to buff the deceased flies off.

Nice one! That'll keep it fit for use for a good while more.

Seeing my youngest granddaughter (5 yo) perform in her end of term drama class show. She was Peg-it the Pirate. "Leggit Pegit".

After the show she absolutely roared with laughter when I told her my favourite pirate joke: Why are pirates called pirates? Because they yaaaaar!

Pieces of seven? Parroty (parity) error! Left he bemused ... one for the computer geeks amongst us :geek:

Finally finishing off the hated bottle of Old Spice that someone bought me recently. I have never liked this aftershave, and I make no secret of it. However, this friend, for reasons only known to themselves, took it upon themselves to buy me a bottle of it as a gift. This person is not usually the kind to buy others gifts for no reason. I can only assume that it was a wind-up.

The empty bottle is now in the bin, where it belongs. I would have thrown the entire bottle away before but, despite what I said, this person is a friend and I wouldn't want to offend them. Next time, though, I won't be quite as charitable....

Maybe they thought "if you're going to be an old git may as well smell like one" hahaha! Sorry, couldn't resist. The last time I used Old Spice I was only just starting shaving so I have no real opinion on it. Had a sniff of a bottle in TK Maxx but it seemed a bit insipid the one I smelt, and none of them were called "Original" so it lacked even the nostalgia trip.

Thanks for that, the varnish took two days to reach 90% dry and is now a very durable hard gloss.

Another hobby of mine is to restore old hand tools, just regular hammers, spanners, chisels etc. I did two hammers on the same day, same method, on one handle the varnish was dry after one day, the other was still wet I.e. Not sticky, after 5 days and I had to wipe it clean with a turps rag, never seen that before. Different wood on the handles was the only thing between them, one beech the other ash.

By the way, if you ever have the chance to buy pre war German hand tools then do so, the quality of the steel is amazing.
