What made your day a good one

Being a good bicycle chain Samaritan 2 days in a row.

Last night some bloke pushing his bike so stopped and sorted out his bizarrely twisted chain.

Today a granddad (Granddads are great. I love granddads) with his grandkids and one had his chain stuck between the wheel and the rear sprockets. Sorted and on his way again.

I never saw me as being the God of fixing shit bicycle chains. But I must be.

I am back in my own bed after six nights on an inflatable at my old apartment. Unfortunately I have to go back in around 7 to 10 days...
My mattress is rather worn, and has more broken springs than I've had hot dinners. I actually think that an inflatable would be MORE comfortable than my own bed, not less.

Saying that, though....I think even a sleeping bag on my floor would be more comfortable than my own bed.....

I slept for years on cheap £99.00 mattresses. Buying a 2k mattress for £700.00 in 2016 was the best thing I have ever done...

got my MSc dissertation results back. Got a merit pass (was hoping for distinction but I think Ive developed too high a standard for myself). If I have to guess, I would say that I get a merit pass overall for the degree.

Congratulations Karl.

Even though you know what I will say next I will still say it. You are allowed to treat yourself to a shaving related purchase to reward your hard work and excellent achievement.

My day got off to a very good start when I went into Boots to buy some deodorant that I had run out of. Boots sell some good deodorants, so I usually go there when I need some. I was delighted to see that they had a full stock of Ted Baker deodorants, which I like very much. They sell out of it quite often, so it must be a fairly popular item. Anyway, I bought a couple of them.

Then, when I went to the till to pay, the nice lady told me that I was entitled to a £1.50 saving per item, as I had used my Advantage card. They should have been £4.50 each, but I was only charged £3.00 each for the two items. So, I made a saving, purely because I had a Boots card!

"Every little helps", as they say on the Tesco ads on the telly.

Tiered pricing for membership/loyalty seems to be the thing nowadays from Tesco to Boots to the delicious ice cream I had from Hotel Chocolat today.

I think we’ll see a lot more of it …

Thankfully, usually the app and addition to phone wallet is all you need. I don’t carry a traditional wallet at all any more.

Finally getting my house roof serviced in full this past week and at least the weather held out. One more week of work to go including a new Velux and new skylight glazing. Plus all the other bits considered important. Drains, leading, felting, facia boards, etc etc

Feel so much better as this has taken over a year and half to get around to and the thought the house will be much more secure in all senses.

The size of some of the tiles really took me by surprise. Around 3.5ft x 1.5ft. And there are a number larger again.

We had our roof serviced a couple of years ago. Stone tiles, turned. New gutters, which I went for TwinPlas to match the shape of the rotten wooden guttering it replaced. Absolutely! We felt so much better about the integrity of the house having had the work done.

Like yours, big tiles - 3x2ft largest, which only present maybe a foot an a bit. Good overlap.

Not a cheap exercise, but in consideration that a house is very dependent on a good roof it is money well spent.

More painful because it is quite tall (11.5ft ceilings on first and second floors) and listed. Which is a total pain as everything has to be sympathetic so having the old tiles relaid and replaced only where necessary.

It does get me when you see these TV programmes where folk buy their 'old dream' house at the edge of their budget. It's the cost afterwards and down the line where the real cost is.
