What is (was) your best razor - actually providing your best shave?

@chris.hale Hi; My Pils arrived today :)

I found loading tricky - took a few attempts to get the blade aligned - any tips? Also what angle do you go for when looking for the sweet spot? A shallow angle worked for me - with the handle further away from my face.

Thanks,

Chris

Hi Chris

Don't try putting the blade into the cap, sit it over the little nubs on the base and then put the cap on. Trying to do it the other way leads to frustration unless you manage to drop it into the cap just so or nudge it with the handle. Shallow angle for me too, if you try going steep with it you'll just lift the blade and it'll either be really inefficient or not work at all.

I had one of the closest shaves with the best comfort level for a close to BBS with a Lord L6 & Astra Green the other day.

I cannot normally go ATG but this razor let's me. Unless I can replicate this with other razors (I have a good few vintage Gillette's) this may win.

Which is terrible as I have spent a fair bit amassing my collection & the Lord was my second purchased DE years ago LOL

At present it is my 6S, although there are many close 2nds, I had my first 1912 shave the other day and basically fell in love with everything about it. Been on the forum just over a month and have had a serious case of RAD. Bought over 20 razors in 6 weeks. New, BST & Vintage. Then there are the brushes, blades, soaps, balms and new A/S's. It been a wild old time and I have a long way to go before I can say " that's the one'

Even when you do find that razor that you think is the one there will always be a small part of you thinking .....well maybe, just maybe there is someting better that will be released very soon! :) Or that could just be me!! :) P.

Muhle R41 was my go to for years. Then I discovered Aliexpress and bought Qshave and YaQi razor. The R41 is still my favorite but I now have 4 razors and so there is a bit of a rotation now

Gillette slim adjustable with a feather blade.
I find the feathers too sharp for my shavettes and prefer a pre cut Derby...seems to work for me, also like my blue tip and the nacets, I have 3 or 4 razors I have not even tried yet... I bought them new but still reach for my feather club Dx 99% of the time, I am currently trying to get into SR's and making slowwww headway, I think this may improve very shortly after I meet @Fergiebilly , I will be picking his brains for snippets of ideas :)
