What is (was) your best razor - actually providing your best shave?

I have several to choose from however, on the modern side I would go with either my Progress or Mergress loaded up with a Crystal Super Platinum or Gillette Silver Blue. Though the Merkur 45 is also a favourite. On the vintage side would be either the 1934 Gillette Aristocrat, 1938 Gillette Sheraton or 1960 Gillette Fatboy with a Gillette Platinum, Personna Lab Blue or Voskhod. List changes all the time however, these combos always lead to stellar shaves.

I have about a couple of dozen razors I've shaved with but use my 6S 95% of the time.
I have a stash of NOS Personna Super Platinum Chrome blades that give a superb shave

Probably my best, in terms of a combination of ease and smooth result, and with the vintage Light Brigade and Personna 74 blades I use, is the Paradigm Titanium II. The Wolfman SB gives the same result but requires slightly more care. The Feather and Webers are just as easy, but they don't give quite the same smoothness at the end.
Absolutely no blade I have tried comes close to the discontinued Person 74 Tungsten blades. They are super sharp, super long lasting and super smooth. I wish they were made today. I have a small supply and continue to look for them when they turn up as a bargain for less than $150 per blade!

At this moment in time, my English Flat Bottom, Fat Handle Tech. This loaded with an Astra SP blade is giving me effortless BBS shaves with absolutely ZERO irritation.
I have a tough (directionally random) beard and skin prone to irritation and have struggled to get consistently good shaves out of any razor since getting into this type of shaving in February of this year. I have used at some point, and been generally unsatisfied with: a Merkur 34c, an Ever Ready 1912 (British), a Ming Shi 2000s, an Aluminium handle Tech, my FH Tech, a Schick G1, a GEM OCMM, a 1912 (USA).
I then revisited my FH Tech and OH BOY, my technique must have improved, and now I see what all the hype around Techs was/is!

PILS with a Personna med prep. It's incredibly smooth and comfortable yet gives me a really close shave.

@chris.hale Hi; My Pils arrived today :)

I found loading tricky - took a few attempts to get the blade aligned - any tips? Also what angle do you go for when looking for the sweet spot? A shallow angle worked for me - with the handle further away from my face.

Thanks,

Chris

This is an older thread and it's interesting to see how choices change. At the start of the thread I was using SB razors like the Tech and Yintal Bronze. Since then I went to GEM razors and back to efficient open comb DEs like the R41. But if it's a question of saying what I use for my best shaves, it still has to be my GEMs. MMOC, MMCP and probably best of all my Ever-Ready 1912s with a variety of modern handles. That PTFE GEM blade is just the best in all shaving.
