What are you drinking tonight.

What is the correct way to drink whisky/whiskey? I have never found the right way apart from adding it to my hot milk lol. With water, soda water, ice...
Entirely up to you - there is no right or wrong - if you enjoy drinking it - then that is fine - whatever you like - personally - with a decent malt - I would mix it half and half with water, some might add a couple of ice cubes - I wouldn't personally - good whisky - in my opinion - needs to be enjoyed at room temperature - but the ice will melt - see how you find it - a splash more water if that suits you better - particularly, if it is cask strength - above 40% proof - you really need the water to open it out - otherwise it will not smell or taste to its full potential - and there might be better ways to damage your liver - but not many - with cooking whisky - for a long drink - ice, soda water, ginger ale, diet coke - knock yourself out - enjoy - there you go - genuine advice from a Scotsman - slàinte - I.

I personally would go for a teaspoon of water; especially in light of @Digimonkey giving wise counsel regarding those above 46% abv.

I started the evening with Masons Yorkshire Gin and Fever Tree tonic. I am ending the evening with Liptons Earl Grey, I think I had them the wrong way around...

My Mum is a massive gin collector, not so much a drinker nowadays. She has well over 100 bottles! Certainly more than she'll be able to drink in this lifetime. Haha! That sounds familiar ... soaps, blades, aftershave? Anyway, there's another Yorkshire gin that's pretty damn good: Speight's. It actually from my villiage, Northowram (Halifax).

Wow, I must find this. Where did you get it from? I rediscovered cream soda a few weeks back, don't think I'd had it since I was a kid. I went on a hunt for it after a mate recommended cream soda, sarsaparilla cordial & vodka mixed together.

Not many shops sell cream soda anymore. I only found a posh ‘handcrafted' one (Virgils) in Tesco at £1.90 for a small bottle, then a Spar shop selling cans of the pink & yellow Barrs one for 49p each. A search shows Poundland selling 4 Barrs cans for £1 but I haven't been to one to look yet.

Sarsaparilla cordial is even harder to find. It was made by monks and the Fitzpatrick one I have is from Britain's last temperance bar in East Lancs. Its some kind of local speciality. Mate in Blackburn gets me one when the shop has them in as they suppposedly fly out when they hit the shelves. Not your average cordial as they are about £4 a bottle. A unique taste, only need a small amount, not that nice mixed with still water, but lovely with sparkling water or cream soda. Tastes a bit like root beer. Also love Sarsaparilla sweets from the jar from local sweet shop.
