What A Razor!

Hi. I'm getting as close to BBS in 2 passes with the Outlaw as makes no difference. It really has been that good so far. I shaved this morning and apart from a minor touch up along the jawline 2 passes left me extremely smooth. The shave is in màny ways similar to the Muhle Rocca but closer. I've a fair collection of D/E and S/E razors and can honestly say thàt the Outlaw is now my firm favourite. As ever, YMMV.

Indeed, YMMV

Without listing all your razors, do you have a Rockwell R6, Rex or Karve. These are razors I'm considering along with the Outlaw, I'd be interested if you'll able to compare.

I have a Rockwell S6. It is a fine stainless steel razor and normally I use it with plate 4
And get good results with it. Imo the Outlaw is a superior shave with a slightly more aggressive approach along with a good blade feel. I've never used the Rex or Karve so can't comment on them.

I really am torn between The Outlaw and the Feather AS-D2. The blade gap seems to be similar between these two but I believe the Outlaw is a bit more aggressive mainly because of the different shaving angles required.

Any advice here would be appreciated. Have you used the AS-D2 and can you compare the two? I currently use a Merkur 34C HD and a Merkur 20C.

Hi Joe,
I also have an AS-D2 so can happily give you my views on it vs the Outlaw. In my opinion, the Feather is a beautiful, well engineered tool but I have never been able to get a really great shave from it in the 5 or so years I've owned it. Perfectly acceptable shaves yes but nothing to write home about. Some guys seem to love the AS-D2 but for me £170 seems very expensive for a lovely to look at razor which in my case is used only occasionally.
On the other hand, the Outlaw worked straight out of the box for me and I couldn't be more pleased. One pass and I'm smooth enough to face the day. Two passes and I'm smooth as can be. It's certainly more aggressive than the feather, but what isn't?
In terms of aggression, I'd say it is on a par with my Muhle Rocca R95 V4 (which I also love) but with less blade feel. I've owned the Outlaw for about a month now, had
maybe 15 great close shaves and not a single nick or weeper.
As ever YMMV but for me the Outlaw pips the other razors I own and I'd recommend it to anyone.
I hope it helps.

Hi colina
Thank you very much for your response, exactly the advice I needed. My mind has now been made up and I'll await the arrival of the new batch of Outlaws, which Brian said will include a new ‘mild' base plate that gives a .56 blade gap (opposed to .71 on the standard) - this will obviously be very mild compared to the standard one which you have. I now hope they'll receive both the new mild as well as original standard base plates in the next consignment.

Thanks again for your help.

Cheers Joe.

I'm sure that you'll love it. I certainly hope so.

That'll be great if you can buy both plates, rather than one or the other.

I think I'll wait until the first fully tested vaccine is available.
For the foreseeable future, I will be distancing myself from the CCP.
I dont think the CCP actually manufacture shaving implements. I could be wrong.
It's a razor not a pangolin that people are buying, I don't think the chances of CV-19 will be very high.

Surely you're much more likely to pick up Covid in the local supermarket rather than on a razor which was produced a couple of months ago and has spent a good few weeks in a shipping container before being shipped to you?

I also think they're made in Hong Kong rather than China, although I won't get into the politics of whether the CCP is in control there or not...

I pulled the trigger on an Outlaw today after recieving yet another "these are now back in stock" email from Executive Shaving. I got the standard head with sure grip handle. Will certainly post a small review here once I've tried it out!

I've been considering the outlaw (along with a few others). Does it have a washer where the head screws on? Do you know which country it's been made in?
The razor is made in Hong Kong by the same workshop that makes Alpha Shaving Brushes under the guidance of Steve Tinter an exiled Geordie.
It does not need a washer, the top of the handle when screwed tight rests in a recess.

The standard Outlaw and the Mild Outlaw are both closer shaving than a Feather. The standard Outlaw for most users is a two-pass and you're done razor.
