Wedding Waistcoat Wonderings

Now, it just so happens that I am getting married in the Autumn. This is all fine and dandy until I realised I'm supposed to dress up for it... Who knew?

Anyway. The Mother of The Bride has decreed acceptance on me having a dark blue suit (such as: http://www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10701_10001_46497+0036360SB_-1). I would like to have a waistcoat, so that I can make full use of my fob watch (which is gold). The suit in question is only a 2-piece, so I shall have to get the waistcoat separately. As I want something jazzy, to offset the rather plain suit, this isn't an issue.

Does anyone out there have any advice for what style of pattern etc to go for? Or any other waistcoat acquisition tips?

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding, I think a bold contrasting colour for your waistcoat will work great and go with the same colour with the tie. Amazon is a great place to view many waistcoats and matching ties.
you will be able to pick the colour if you type in "contrasting colours for blue" into Google you will find colour wheels showing the best colour to go for.
:)

I'd advise a little caution in choosing anything too bold or bright - you don't want to clash or detract from your bride! Maybe go for a colour that will compliment the bride's flowers?

Perhaps a darkish shade so that your watch chain will show up against it. I'd go for a single breasted waistcoat - double breasted, especially the ones with a low rever and collar only look right with morning dress. Avoid waistcoats with flat bottoms - modern trousers don't sit high enough on the waist to work with them.

I took my stepson to Neal & Palmer for his wedding waistcoat - they have a huge selection.

Top tip: wear braces - to prevent your trousers 'settling' and creating a gap between them and your waistcoat, as well as crumpled trouser bottoms - you want to look your best in the photos.

Congratulations. Marrying my Mrs is the best thing I have ever done.

As for the waistcoat. If you are conservative, go single colour that compliments the suit. If you are a bit more extravagant, go loud, and the louder the better - it is what i would do! However check with the Mrs first!

Just remember that you will want to be able to look back on your wedding photos 20 years hence without cringing or saying "whatever possessed me to wear a waistcoat that colour"?

So my suggestion would be to keep it conservative, and to bear in mind that fashion is temporary but style is permanent.

For me personally, with a dark blue suit and gold pocket watch, a dark/chocolatey brown springs straight to mind. If you're wearing a sky-blue or white shirt you still match, the gold goes with brown, blue goes with brown, tie can be found to match relatively simply! Congratulations on the upcoming marriage! :D
