How many of you have a Silver-plated shaving mugs? I was fortunate to find one that I have enjoyed using, but not necessarily in the manner it was intended.

I re-knotted the brush from this state:

I do not soak the brush in the cup, nor do I keep soap in the soap dish. Instead, I sue the cup and holder to "store" or keep the brush. What I'd like to do is explore using it as it is intended.
If you use one, what do you do about keeping the soap in the open air? I enjoy using my GT12 too much forgo using it, especially in the winter.

Does anyone use a Victorian-style shaving mug? The type that resemble this:

I am not lucky enough to have such a nice mug as that, I have an old pottery one though and used it today.
I soak my boar brushes in it in warm water. Think it's LPL soap in the top, can't remember which sort.
I guess I mostly use it because I bought it, if you know what I mean, £6 I seem to remember.

I have several scuttles/shaving mugs like yours. I do not cover the soap in the top and they work just fine. I put a layer of soap in the top but not a whole lot. This leaves room to lather the brush. Also a good decoration. Most of the silver plate is gone on mine. Doesn't seem to matter?
