Valobra Menthol Soft Shaving Soap

Since it's been years since anyone posted on this gem I decided to start a new thread and decline thread "necromancy".

A shave buddy gifted me some of this soft(er) soap last year and as I have used it a few times I am of the opinion that quite frankly I have never received a better shave and few equal to this old "warhorse". I had a puck I bought a few years ago, but a friend wanted it so I sold that. I have also used a Valobra shave stick years ago that worked fantastic as well. Recently, Proraso bought this old company and let us hope they don't change the formula. :cautious: It is not complex, just the right amount of menthol for me and lathers with childlike ease. It is one of those few soaps with which I get zero drag with its incredible slickness. They say it's the clay therein. Quite frankly I don't care if it's used kitty litter they're using as it works. ;) Some shavers have complained that it is drying for their faces, but I think that is really trivial and something that has come about as of late in the anal retentive push for soaps that leave your face like a bayou post shave nowadays. I use AS anyway and it's the shave that's important for me and not the scent and least of all post shave feel. Try it.

It's bottom of the Italian almond croap pile for me (and I've tried them all.) Not unusable but nothing remarkable, especially considering the price compared to Cella/Vitos/3P.

I really wanted to like it as I enjoy the Valobra stick but it just didn't deliver, YMMV as always.

I've used all those others and Cella makes me sick to smell nowadays after using two tubs as does 3P. I had a Vitos sample and it was OK, but never worked for me like Valobra does. YMMV.

I have never used Valobra's Menthol soft shaving soap but am a huge fan of their shaving sticks. The news that Valobra was bought out by Proraso somehow went unnoticed by me, but it's made me realise that I better stock up on sticks... just in case.
