Just been watching some you tube vids on vacuum coffee makers

There are a couple of full sets going on eBay but after being an automatic machine user for many years does anyone here use these contraptions on a regular basis?

Does it actually make better coffee and if it does why (I assume you yes filter coffee and do you then need to filter)?

It's an impressive bit of kit and a bit of a party piece but I'm interested if anyone can explain the benefits over a good beans to cup!

Hiya,

they produce a lovely 'clean' flavoursome brew without the muddiness of a cafetiere. A fluke of the method ensures the water is at the right temperature to brew so avoiding bitter or sour notes. They are a bit of a faff, so probably not ideal for breakfast time.

My experience is limited to an old Santos, which I ended up breaking, and a Cona. The Conas are great because the coffee touches nothing except glass – the filtering is done by a glass rod which acts like plug to hold back the grounds while letting the liquid through. Nice bit of theatrics to end a dinner party and a top-notch cup of coffee.

Yes. Went through my vacuum maker phase. Have 3 different models. They all basically make an equally good cup of coffee.
Only 2 negatives that I have with them are: Prep Time; I have an electric store and it's a procedure that you don't want to start if you have a deadline. And 2, the Clean Up. It's not a machine that's easy to clean out.
Other than that it's cool to watch and the coffee is good.
