Travel Straights

while doing a bit of research into the Fairbairn-Sykes Fighting Knife :? i ended up on a site that listed the kit required for WWI (II) soldiers and it was listed into Army Issue and Personal Kit.
this might have been for re-enactment purposes?
when it came to the grooming kit soldiers had most of the stuff was issue, soap etc but the razor was a travel straight and was own purchase
this is what got me interested as the straight looked small, i.e. the length of the spine, looked about the same as a normal DE blade but definately smaller than a standard straight, if there is such a thing?

don't know what you lot think but i'd find that highly appealing as i think it'd be easier to move around your face

i'm not interested in getting a shavette but haven't heard anyone mention this type of thing before

my imagination?

I have seen a few army issue straight razors, mainly WWI and pre WWI, but all were normal size. Usually they have the soldier's number on the scale. I have seen Durham Duplex and similar razors, which had a smaller metal piece that slipped over the blade so they could trim their own hair. The only very small ostraights I have seen have been broken at the point and reground - and I seem to recall a ladies straight that was smaller than normal!

Below is a WWI straight made by John Clark & Sons, Sheffield (ceased trading in 1915) owned by a member of the Royal Engineers:

so it was my imagination then

p.s. i have a patent pending on that idea so hands off

unless Neil could make a custom straight?

I am a sucker for WW army kit, I don't buy or collect any per say but I do like the look of a lot of the stuff they issued.
