The ultimate brush?

I'm looking ahead to new year adventures.

If I decide to go to London in search of the ultimate brush I need help on two issues.

Which shop or shops are likely to have a really good range of brushes among which that special one might be?

Then what might be the special one? Now I don't want a solid gold handle, just very good quality will do. But what I would want is the best in terms of how the brush is made and the hair used to make it. No price limit.

I may also be looking to buy just one brand new straight to complement my vintage straights. But more about that later.

And on the question about what I want of the ultimate brush - I want it to do everything brilliantly.

Within the vast range of brushes made by Rooney, Simpson and Plisson you might just find what you're looking for.

How about a pre-ban Ivory-handled Plisson with pure white high mountain badger hair for £1500?

I wonder what that would cost if supplied with a functional ivory coloured handle? And while I'm back, it's hard to believe that I am really going to get much of an improvement on how my present brushes perform. But there's only one way I'm going to find out.

after searching and spending dosh on looking for the ultimate brush i can confirm it doesn't exist  :(

but all is not lost :)

you just need 2 or maybe 3 different brushes to cover all the bases, every brush has a little downside or something that another does better

conspiracy theory i say

the ultimate brush is somewhere but the man who invented it was killed and his discovery hidden in the car that runs on water

Here's a straight for you to consider:

Wow - that is one beautiful looking straight. Is the 'thumb nail' test true (you can bend the edge of properly honed straight on your thumb nail and it will spring back). If it is, I am even more impressed!! Actually, may be not, you can do that with a feather DE blade too

Here's another straight for your consideration..

I think I'm losing my touch. All I've done following these most helpful suggestions is to invest the princely sum of £7.60 in a Vullfix 404 recommended by that spendthrift SirPrize. I had in mind a rather more expensive option. There's always another day - I hope.
