The Personal Barber

Hi all,

I've just come across The Personal Barber and I really like what it is trying to achieve. It also seems like a great way to discover new products.

I was just wondering the following:

1) Does anyone subscribe and if so, do you have any comments / feedback?
2) If you don't subscribe, what do you think?

I think that there are codes available for a discount on the first box if you don't take the razor / brush.

But yeh, it just looked like a really good idea and I was keen to discover people's thoughts.

John

I remember seeing this a few months ago and thought it looked quite interesting. I'd say if you're new to wet shaving and don't yet hold masses of stores due to associated acquisition disorders, it's an interesting way to get variety. The razor looks like the Baili Tech and the brush is a generic Chinese synthetic and you could get both of these delivered for <£10. If the products are full size, this could be reasonable value for money. If for ~£20 per month you're getting some travel/sample size products and two tucks of blades, the value is not so good. Good for those that don't want to research.

As a comparison, the annual pack is ~£170. You could get a decent EJ, Merkur or Muhle Razor (£40), a decent synthetic (£20), 3 x pre and 3 x post shave items (£35), a mixture of blades (£20) and a mixture of mid and premium soaps/creams (£50) for £165 which would likely give you closer to 2 years use.

NB: Recognising you could spend significantly more than I've quoted but I'm sure all would agree that excellent products can be had in the price ranges above.

Sorry I missed your post on this. I hear what you are saying and agree to a degree but I think that this is a good way to discover new things without having to do the research. I have also looked at the last few boxes and tried to shop around for the products elsewhere on the internet. I didn't manage to find the sum of soap / creme + 2 other items (pre / post stuff) for less than the price of the box. This leads me to believe that it is good value for the products included.

I can definitely see the appeal. If you do go for it, please do keep us updated with both your opinion and what your receive as I'm sure quite a few of us could be tempted if it does provide value.

I joined in April and receive a new box every 90 days. The free razor and brush with your first order is a nice touch. The brush is actually not that bad but the razor is certainly on the cheap side. You can achieve a good shave with it but, there's lot's of chatter if you have 2 or 3 days growth and it's not a very comfy experience.
The other items however are superb. A shaving soap or cream and 10 blades are standard with every delivery and you get extras thrown in. This might be a pre or post shave product or a cologne or alum block for example. Once a year you also receive a Personal Barber embroidered shave towel which is actually a Muhle waffle towel so, it's not too shabby.
You can tailor the delivery frequency somewhat. 45 or 90 days depending on your requirement and you can of course change this when you like. As a member, you also receive a permanent 15% discount code to use in their online shop.
As honeywoodjohn says, I'ts a great way to try new products and I'll certainly be sticking with it for now.

Is the soap a full size product?
