The Old Bamboo, The Old Bamboo...

Okay so the kids (aka the wife) got me this Bambaw razor for Fathers Day. The handle is 100% bamboo and the rest is a nice shiny stainless steel. Very eco friendly apparently. It seemed well made so I thought lets give it a whirl. It comes with an Astra Superior Platinum blade so no messing around there. Been dying to use my new bakelite bowl so I twinned that up with half an Arko soap stick pressed in to the bottom of it. I've sensed a wee bit snobbery around the place about Arko soap but I've used it a few times now when I shave my dad and I like it. Lathers up quickly really well. Nice and creamy... and a lovely scent. My Yaqi brush is great but I really need to find another to compete with it. I have a Vanguard Bluebeard but I prefer the Yaqi. I've been leaning towards RazoRocks so we'll see. Anyway... The razor actually performed pretty well. It's got a bit of weight to it which is nice and the long handle means you can move ot around with confidence. I did 3 passes and I was pretty smooth other than my top lip miss, which was totally me and not the razor. Finished with the Proraso splash, which incidently is the only one I have. If you've taken the time to read my rambling perhaps you could stretch it to recommending me some. So all in all the Fathers Day razor isn't bad at all. I'll continue to shave with it on occasion even though I have better razors, just cos I'm a sentimental old scroat :)

Excellent Posting... (y)

A superb addition to your humble DE razor collection...By the way IMHO Arko shave sticks are astounding good for what they cost, ok like it's turkish cousin Derby both don't get top marks for fragrance value, but for performance slickness, and post shave feel they are amazingly good..'You'll always get brand snobs, but that's their own choice..The vast majority of my shave set ups are very in-expensive, not because i'm a tight fisted frugal 'Cheapo charlie' , no because i try not to be sucked in by the hype around the latest 'best ever wet shaving item to have' i don't worry too much about anyone else's opinion. Nobody is standing on the other side of the mirror making biased judgements. The face i'm shaving is my own, and i don't have to satisfy anyone but myself. The wonderful thing about traditional wet shaving for me is that there are so many good products out there and there literally is something for just about everyone..I don't scorn people who don't use a DE razor, or people who use budget SOTD set ups..Each to their own.
PS: Try mixing a Palmolive & Arko stick together, this makes a superb frankensoap..Enjoy your shaves with 'The Old Bamboo.

Regards. B:cool:

Arko is great performing stuff. In terms of your post-shave question, there's a load of good low-cost stuff I've personally used. The Superdrug ASLs are very good and I believe you can get both scents on a 2 for £4 deal. All the Nivea post-shave items are great and are very good value for money when on offer. I'm quite enjoying their 2 Phase lotion at the minute which acts as an ASL and ASB simultaneously.

The Proraso blue post-shave balm is also very nice.

Finally, the Boots Freshwood ASL and ASB are very good and can also be had for under £5 together.

Superb, cheers Boycie. I do have a couple of ASB's including Nivea for sensitive skin which as you say is great stuff at a great price. Will check out your Superdrug recommendations for ASL but I tend to body swerve the tax dodging tw*ts that are Boots :p
