The New Proraso!

Pre Shaves are a personal thing, often overlooked by many as unnecessary and loved by others. I sit in the second category and believe pre shaves have a really great impact on my shave and also the enjoyment I have whilst shaving.

So I bring you the new Proraso, no one else has spoken of it so I will....Mickey Lee SoapWorks Pre Shave Butter. Currently comes in two scents Lime or Peppermint, I have Lime. I will tell you now it is a fantastic lime scent really refreshing and slightly sweet - it really jumps out.

The butter comes in a well presented tub, with quite a substantial amount inside. It takes the appearance of a normal shaving soap or tub of moisturiser. When you first try to take some you will notice it's quite firm. Once you have scooped a small amount onto the end of your finger you rub it in your palms which should already be wet. It breaks down in to what I can only describe as "Oil Like". However it is not as thick as oil and goes on your face nicely. Make sure you have a wet face before hand and massage in. The scent is still present but not overcoming which is nice as it doesn't interfere with the soap scent. Once this done you get on with the shave.

This is the part where I think some get confused, pre shaves main functions are in fact not to improve glide they are there to soften stubble and moisturise the skin. This pre shave really does that very well. I might benefit more from a pre shave than most as I have very thick and very coarse stubble. Pre shaves tend to help soften the hair and make cutting them that little easier. This product is no exception, where I think this excels is in the aftershave feel. My face is quite dry normal but with this it felt soft and subtle afterwards with no dry skin.

If there is a con to this over its most comparable product the Proraso Pre Shave Cream it would be availability but I'm sure that will change in the future. The pros over Proraso is there is more of it for pretty much the same price and in my opinion the scent is much better.

I know others have been buying this as Mickey Lee is currently sold out of the Lime. I urge you to grab some next time and try it out, after all what is $10?!

Thanks for that @WindsorCitrus. MLSW is my current soap du jour. I love the stuff.

I haven't, yet, tried the other products in the MLSW range but it's good to know that the Pre Shave Butter comes well-recommended. The only problem being, the added buggeration of shipping / customs etc when importing to the UK...

That said, it's surely only a matter of time before MLSW products become more readily available through one of the specialist UK shaving suppliers.

This is totally me, I need a proper pre soak to get a decent shave, even with mach3 etc etc
My presoak wash/scrub/pre soak soap/rinse/soap/shave ritual started in the Army when I 'had' to shave daily and has been something I do ever since.

I'll see if I can get my hands on that thanks :)
