Indeed, it's a natural product and they're not supposed to last a lifetime. I'd say you got your money's worth if that was in daily use.

Pushing hard down when loading and lathering, sometimes referred to as mashing, causes the centre of the knot fibres to break, hence the lack of fibres left there. That brush is well worn so you need a new one; just don't treat the new one the same way.

Fecking wife done the same to me years ago, I had 70s sideburns below earlobes. She shaved the right side to above the ear.
Only thing to do was shave the other one to match, the slagging I got still troubles me now.
.She never got to cut my hair again, I'm a number one on the guard of the clippers now.
