The Hyper Glide System

Posting this in the cartridge forum as I'm assuming this type of razor has rather...limited wet-shaving-forum appeal - and well, it was developed in the UK ;)

Anywho, I just read about the Hyper Glide System and wanted to see if anyone here has been 'brave' enough to give it a try...and if so...how did it work? :)

In one sentence: "A cartridge razor where you just add water - and then shave"...or as it's stated on their home page:
"Hyperglide features a unique patented super hydrophilic self-lubricating cartridge that creates its own slippery hydrogel over the entire front shaving surface when it is activated by immersing it in water, delivering amazing razor blade glide, comfort and closeness."

Here's a video:

At least they put the lube strip in front of the blades. Gillette's approach to lube strips always confused me. What good does it do to stick it behind the blades?

Edit: this is from a guy who prefers the vintage strip free Trac II cartridges on the very rare occasions I use a cartridge. I guess "Now with SLIME!" wouldn't be a very effective ad campaign.

Right here!
Since I ditched cartridges I hadn't looked at the price but was in the chemists waiting for my prescriptions yesterday and there was a promotional board beside the till. Twenty six forking pounds for eight Fusion carts! They had a "special offer" with the razor and four carts for twenty pounds! I was completely shocked, tried not to think about them in two years. I still get the pain cringes on my chin every time I think about them though, mentally scarred!

I doubled between DE and the KOS razors for years, I still have the original KOS Azur from 2005 plus couple more incarnations with carts to spare.
I got the HG for free a year ago or so and used it many times, good razor just with water, fabulous razor with proper lather.

This morning I used a blade for the second time and it was less than satisfactory - left me with slightly rough patches either side of my Adam's Apple. Then Colin arrived and handed me a new Black Hyper-Glide razor (and new 100mm Seygus handles, he he!). After unpacking them all I couldn't resist the Hyper-Glide on those two rough patches. Ran it under the tap, ATG and all is smooth and as it should be!

Not a full test - tomorrow morning - but a highly impressive indicator!

That's really interesting. I'd be most curious to learn how well the 'built-in-glide' lasts as you use it a few more times.
