The Guerrilla

OK. I have shaved with the Guerrilla and I would like to share my thoughts with you.
When Her indoors rang me to tell me it had arrived and that the postman had just handed it over without the usual ransom I was flabbergasted. I was expecting a fair few pounds to be demanded before I could claim it so that was a nice surprise to say the least. Packaging Hmmn, sadly I was disappointed. It arrived in a Canada Post plain white cardboard box. The razor wrapped in a green napkin and bubble wrap. A nice Guerrilla box should be included in my opinion as even though it isn't a Wolfman it still is an expensive razor. If Rockwell can do it then so can Guerrilla so I'll mark it down for that.

Once opened the beauty of this razor shines through. I didn't think I would like the handle and other owners have said wait until you get it in your hand. I have to agree. The handle is perfect for the razor the chunkiness offsets the thin head perfectly and makes the razor look more substantial than it is, plus the hollow handle keeps the balance of the thin head. I was unsure of grip so made sure I dipped my hands into the lather then picked up the razor, a little extreme but a good test. I had no problems with slipping at all. In normal use I can see no issues with the finish.

The thinness of the head reminds me of the Barbaros TR1. It makes it agile and great under the nose for picking up those difficult hairs under and around the nostrils. Loading the blade was a tad trickier than I expected. On all my other razors the locating pins are on the top cap either side of the screw thread. On this razor there are none. The locating posts are on the bottom plate this meant I had to place the blade on the bottom cap then put the top cap center screw thread through the bottom plate and it was a bit of a juggling act but I got there. It may take some getting used to if I'm honest.

Once loaded everything lined up perfectly. The blade gap looked right for me, nothing too aggressive, I knew I was in for a mild sure footed shave. I used my normal blade a Voskhod and lathered with Wickham Cashmere. Slick and lovely. I put it to my face and the angle for the shave was a doddle to find. First stroke from the side burn to the jawline gave good audio feedback, I knew she was cutting. I do not have Desperate Dan style whiskers but they are substantial enough and the Guerrilla scythed through them. I felt the track of the shave. I wasn't BBS yet but that was no surprise. I completed the first pass and lathered up for an XTG second. I completed the shave with a little buffing under the jawline as usual. No nicks or weepers even in the awkward places either side of the Adams Apple.

I seldom get the full finished feeling of the shave until I use a little Aloe and a splash of scent then give my face 5 mins to settle. I then judge the shave. I'm happy to say it was great, smooth as silk and zero irritation or redness anywhere. This is a great little razor and even though I have never used or held a full blown Wolfman I think it is better than a junior Wolfman . The Guerrilla is a great razor in it's own right and well worth the price in my opinion.

Thanks for the great review. The design with the location posts on the base plate seems similar to the Black Mamba.
I got shipping confirmation for my Guerrilla from James yesterday. Really looking forward to it.

Wonderful review Wayne and like the pics too! Collected mine from the post office yesterday (yep I was unlucky)..haven't had a chance to use it yet but I agree, it's a lovely looking razor and like the slim head profile.

Looking forward to using it over the next couple of day.
