The Green Ray

I'd been looking for a new brush for a while when I strumbled upon Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements, Green Ray Syth. I immediately loved the colour combination and it's retro look, which is based on a vintage Ever-Ready brush. Also I'd set myself a £20-£30 price range so at £22.49 from The Shaving Station it ticked that box. I had been looking at RazoRock brushes but nowhere seemed to have any of the designs I liked in stock so I decided to take a chance on The Green Ray. For it's first outing I thought it deseved something special so I used some lovely Vitos soap that I keep in a fab wee bakelite soap dish I got off e-Bay. My good pal @Scotshave gifted me the Vitos when I first got in to real shaving a while back and for that I am eternally grateful. It is a gorgeous soap. I've been meaning to use my Gillette 1914 for a while so that was a no brainer but on this occasion I wanted to try the Pal carbon steel blade I got as a freebie when buying some Gems. The Green Ray did not disappoint. It's bristles are longer than I'm used to and I guess that may cause the slight lack of backbone that I'd read about in some reviews. I'm used to a slightly firmer feel with my Yaqi and Blue Beard brushes but to be honest I really enjoyed the difference. It lathered up the Vitos in no time and the brush held enough soap for 3 full passes and some pick ups. I loved it's feel too. Dunno why but it felt real old school. The Pal blade was a whole different experience. I really didn't like it at all. It dragged even after my 3 day growth had been well lathered up. That has never happened when I've used a Gem blade in my experience. It really did spoil what should have been a decent shave and I doubt I'll use it again so it'll be binned. I made the best of it though and gave myself a half decent scraping (and I literally do mean scraping). I finished off by trying out another new acquisition. Men's Master Professional Rosemary and Pepper After Shave Splash. Now this stuff is right up my street. Nice wee tingle going on and fresh feel a few seconds later. It's scent is total old school and lasts a decent while too. Well worth a try at £8.60 on Amazon. If you like that barber smell you'll love this stuff. So that's it. I whole heartidly recommend Vitos Italian Shaving Soap, Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements Green Ray 24mm Hybrid Tribble Synthetic Brush and Men's Master Professional Rosemary and Pepper After Shave Splash. I would also recommend avoiding carbon steel blades... unless you know something I don't know.

Just bought The Green Ray myself, really liked it too. It's my first decent sized knot and found it soft and pliable but with enough backbone to allow a little splay without out it collapsing completely. As for the colours I'm a Celtic and a Packers supporter so nuff said.
