Testers wanted - not for Vegetarians

This is what I was referring to Paul. Trinity is a beautiful university, and definitely worth a visit by anyone in Dublin. But is it a bit religious - as a word - for some?
Aha - I don't mind the word tallow, just food references in my shaving soap.

For those with a religious upbringing it might have that link, but I don't know about the general populous.

Well, growing up in Ireland, we often fried in lard and tallow, so it has a food reference to me. As for religion; well, we're not allowed talk about it.:( But for me it has those connotations.; as a cultural as opposed to believing....can I write Catholic?

First impressions today; I was traveling, so the soap was waiting for me while I was abroad ;)

Scent: lime, citrus, with an undertone that I cannot quite put my finger on. A bit musky? The overall scent is definitely not too strong for me, and I like that. Test passed :)

Lathering ease: I used an Edwin Jagger Silvertip Fibre brush, and maybe I should have tried a more finicky brush to really test the soap. But with this brush, the soap easily bursts into a creamy lather. It looks nice, and it feels great.

Water tolerance: the soap is very tolerant of adding water, and never gets runny. I would say it's in line with other good tallow soaps that I use.

Slickness: good, makes the blade glide easily. Comparable to the Palmolive stick, if I have to compare brands. I would not complain if the final product was even a bit more slick.

Protection: excellent. At no point, I had the impression that the blade (Feather, in a Fatip razor) was scraping my skin. I felt it's holding up with the best soaps here.

Post shave feel: excellent. No drying out, and it leaves my skin supple. No irritation; I would certainly have spotted it with the Fatip / Feather combo, but it's all smoothness.

So, my initial impressions are very positive. I would comfortably place this next to e.g. Haslinger Ringelblumen, and the WS blue stick. A question for me would be; what makes this soap unique? I think I would make the scent as natural and fresh as possible (maybe adding a trace of mint?), and if there would be an improvement area, it would be slickness for me.

I'm going to use the soap again tomorrow, of course ... so I'll post my further thoughts then. Probably going to test it with a mild razor and three passes then.

First thing which sprang to my mind when I read Trinity was atomic bomb testing. Producing a soap bomb would be desireable, however hopefully the only fallout from NSS will be close shaves and great feedback.

Thanks for the detailed review @Eeyore68 and glad you like most aspects of the soap. Slickness will be improved in the final version.
@JohnnyO I hadn't thought of the nuclear testing; also not a great association. Despite visions of mushroom clouds of foam.:)

I've just had feedback from my regular customer who I don't think is a member here. He got the tweeked version. He liked all aspects except he feels the soap leaves a feeling of residue on the skin after rinsing. Anyone else notice this with the tweeked version?

I felt clean and refreshed, youthful, with a face as soft as dishwashers' hands.

Trinity is all wrong for me, for all the banned reasons you mentioned, Sharon - but not because they're banned, you understand. For the reasons.

How about one of the Dublin bridge names - over the Liffy (???). Is there a suitable one?

I had my third shave with beefy today and the only difference this time was that I used my nice new lather bowl. I got a much richer, creamier lather than I managed on face lathering. Shave wise still the same great cushion and glide, maybe even a little better.

Still it was only my first lathering attempt so more practice required. ;)

I've heard of frying in lard or dripping but tallow is a new one on me.
I think dripping is more what you get in a roasting tin, fat and juices, whereas tallow is just the fat. Though to confuse things, Tesco sell their pure beef fat as beef dripping. Whatever, as you can fry in pure beef fat, and it is sold for this, it is surely a food item.
As for bridges over the Liffey; ha'penny, O'Connell, Sean O'Casey, James Joyce are some.
Nice lather Fish, but not an awful lot of it; was that before or after you shaved?
Thanks for the responses re 'residue'; will pass on to customer.
