Sweyn Forkbeard - Product Reviews

Tried the almond today, a great smell, but the soap just doesn't excel, difficult to lather and it's a thin weak lather, the good bit was that there was no irritation, can't say I would buy it in its current form.

Now tried both. As with most other reviews, mine is one of Great scent, lousy lather.

It needs work. If it can be reformulated to lather well, it will be a good soap. The problem is that there are loads of good soaps and creams so things that are new need to be so much better than just good.

To add my final comments to this thread - tried out peppermint on a general cheeks & neck tidy-up. Lather was sticky at first and broke down to a sort of 'paste'. After wetting provided a bit more slip but, again, the lather broke down into a paste mid-shave. I ended up trying it with a very wet, and somewhat slippery, soapy water mix which worked okay but didn't provide me with much confidence.

Managed a comfortable enough pass WTG on both cheeks but abandoned the Sweyn in favour of P&B Sanskrit for the remainder of the shave.

I'm not prone to irritation or have come across any allergic reactions during my life so it's promising enough that I didn't have any adverse reactions to either of the creams.

In summary; There's a solid foundation and a more stable lather will vastly improve user feedback, judging by the responses. Scents are good as is, slip/glide is good enough as is but could be improved upon. Formulation must be mild enough to reduce occurrences of irritation in the general public. I doubt I'll be using it again in its current state, unfortunately. That might change as I 'mature' as a SR shaver but, as a newbie, it didn't instil me with enough confidence.

Thanks again to Sweyn Forkbeard and Agent Shave for giving us the opportunity to try something new!

Morning all

We have consciously avoided commenting so that we don't influence the reviews, but I think most comments are here now.

To answer Wazza s question, yes I, and the other agents have all tried the cream and probably we are echoing others thoughts above.

We recognise that everyone will have an opinion and these will differ for the same cream but I think the overriding theme is.
The scents are nice
The cream is useable and better than some but outperformd by many

The lather seems to be short lived and by the time you get to the third pass, has become very watery, but still provides sufficient protection in the face.

Personally, I do tend to load cream quite heavily onto my brush and using the extra cream seems to help the lather, if not the economics. For example I have been trailing another cream today, who shall remain nameless, it's quite an expensive cream when compared to my go to cream and using an almond sized piece, created so much lather I felt guilty when I washed my brush out for the waste. I don't think you would ever build a lather with SF to this extent.

It is also interesting to note the very early in this exercise I was contacted by a newbie who had taken part in the trial, he had used the whole sample in one attempt and simply couldn't get any lather build up at all. I guess that those of us more experienced in lathering creams probably don't realise how keen our judgement is when build a lather as how much water, added water is required. Even now I often struggle to get really good lather form a new cream on the first attempt, but usually by the second time i use something I don't have the same problem. Subconsciously I suspect I adjust my technique to the experiences the first time!

In its current formula I don't think that this will ever be one of my go to creams, and if we have demand for this cream then we will continue to stock the range but only time will answer this question! we love the SF brand and they have some really nice bread products in addition to the shaving creams so I am sure we will continue to stock the brand even if demand for the creams falls away.

Finally, can I thank all of the volunteers for their time and for giving honest feedback, we have many more suppliers and manufacturers that we are talking to, and I would be interested to hear if members like this type of opportunity to try something different, and trial a new product for us.

My tub of Vanilla and Tobacco shave cream arrived this morning in time for my shave. I was looking for a change to my usual.

As there was some cream on lid from transporting the pot, I dipped my brush in that and started to build a lather on my face. After the first ten second nothing. Damn. Then, all of a sudden I had more lather than I could manage. I got three passes, with some left. I managed to drop my brush in the sink at the end, don't ask. I will try and get a picture tomorrow. Taylor's of Bond st. is my preferred shave cream, still. I found this better than Trumpers Eucris.

It seems they may have changed it since early 2017. I only discovered SFB Autumn last 2019 via their Instagram. Had I have seen these posts first, I would've avoided them. Pleased now I didn't. I'll see how tomorrow goes.

SFB did take on board our feedback at the time & did tweak the formula - hope you enjoy your shave!

I like their creams. I also have the vanilla and tobacco and there's a nice smell of vanilla to it that's not overpowering.
I can get a really thick lather from it. Ive also tried their shaving soap but I think the cream is better.
