I'm in the "grow a proper beard or shave daily" set. In the early 80s, I felt an urge to grow a beard, and promised myself it would cover my tie knot, which it did. At the time, I was senior management in a large London advertising agency, which did give me some leeway for eccentricity. However, several of my colleagues thought I'd gone off my head. I rather liked the contrast with my tailored suits and Jermyn Street shirts; no lumberjack shirts involved.
