Straight Give Away

Some more photos for you guys to have a look at. Notice that there is now a third pin in the razor this was because the blade wasn’t sitting square when closed. The previous restorer has ground the tang down on one side removing the makers name. The third pin is slightly off set to make the scales sit square to the razor when it is closed. If I was going to keep the razor I wouldn’t have bothered I would have just been very careful putting the blade away but for whoever wins it I didn’t want that to be a problem. I am also going to offer a free honing service with this razor so if it goes blunt for whatever reason send it back and I will send it back sharp again.

Hi Colin yes it is a Dome razor the other side where it says made and ground in Germany has been ground away by the previous owner. It is a lovely razor and shaves very well. I will let my son draw the name out of the hat on Friday after he gets home from school so the winner will be announced at 5pm on Friday. Good luck to all those that have entered.

Thanks guys, holy crap that means I have to shave with a straight at least once, gulp

Yup, and then tell us all how it went :D

I had a couple to attempts, and came nowhere near slicing a facial feature off. I think it's one of those things that gets blown out of proportion, like Feather blades or Slant razors. The reputation of these things is sometimes built up to such a level by some people's descriptions, that you get the impression that as soon as you open the packaging, the damn things go for your throat!

Why don't I use a straight now? To much arsing about with strops and honing.

Shit, I've just bought a slant too, I'm doomed!!! :D I don't suppose it helps that a straight is also commonly referred to as a cut throat to the uninitiated :)

When it comes down to it I was just as nervous about my first shave with a saftey razor a couple of years ago and I haven't hacked off anything important yet

Hi there Stitch I have just posted it out first class recorded delivery you should get it by Christmas knowing how good our Royal Mail is. I have lent you a strop as well to keep it nice and sharp. I hope that you enjoy your shaves with it. One tip is make sure that the bathroom door is locked the first time as in my house the kids and wife wanted to watch me. They don’t bother now I do it without shaking. :shave

Cheers for that :D as for the family watching, are you sure they weren't there to administer first aid as quickly as possible??? Or was it more of a point and laugh thing

Hopefully the post office will pull it's finger out and it'll turn up at the beginning of the week, I've just finished a set of shifts today and I'm not back in 'til Thursday night so I'll have a bit of time to heal up if I slice my face to bits :D

Postie came this morning and there it was :D I hadn't shaved since Saturday morning in anticipation! As soon as the packaging was off I was straight to the bathroom, did the usual shower/prep, lathered up (Kent/MWF) and it was time to put metal to face

I managed a couple of WTG passes on most of my face, I just couldn't figure out how to do my chin safely. The hardest thing I found was getting the angles right, I'm sure it'll come with practice :D I managed the 2 passes with no blood and rather than push my luck I decided to finish off with a DE.

All in all it was a lot less intimidating than I thought, just need practice angles and to get the hang of the stropping :D, I'm extremely grateful to Exile for his generosity and for giving me the opportunity to shave with a straight :shave
