Starting DE for the first time

Welcome to this place and its well informed members.

Most of this malarkey is about technique, technique, and well..... some more of that technique stuff. And the more you nail that side the more you'll start to wonder where your money is disappearing.

I've got a great technique I picked up in here. See other members SOTD photos with amazing soaps, aftershaves, brushes, razors and bowls then proceed to buy said items...wait approx 3 weeks for RM to deliver by which time I've forget I ordered said items so when they arrive I use them straight away, repeat until bankrupt or wife leaves, whichever comes first.

So (that's) the first shave done with the Muhle, personna blades and the sandalwood cream.

I certainly didn't set any speed records, but it was thoroughly enjoyable. I didn't go for BBS, just a couple of passes.
No nicks, although I did miss a couple of little patches.

This will surely be a learning process!

Smoothness will come with technique and experience. The most important thing is that you enjoyed it. Well done (y)

Don't worry about speed, it's all about taking some me time and the fact that you enjoyed the experience is great, keep it up and keep on enjoying your shave! :) P.

Speed's over rated. Enjoy the shave, it's a few minutes of peace and quiet in the day without looking at a phone or something.

From my experience chasing BBS can be a slippery slope, as a very close shave with a DE for some can involve going against the grain and that for some can lead to in growns.

If the shave was an enjoyable one and you didn't pick up any nicks, and even though there were patches I'd say that's a near enough superb start. It'll only get better from here.

Heh heh, I'd forgotten how much you touch your fizzer when you start on this malarkey. Gets a bit obsessive.
