SOTD: Saturday 9th - Friday 15th March 2019

I know that I had mentioned earlier that I would be going on a run of Aristocrats but the Merkur 34G was calling my name. What a beautiful razor and when loaded up with a Kai, a formidable shaving machine. Some believe the 34 to be mild and somewhat it is but with a sharp blade ala Kai, Polsilver, Nacet etc, it mows down the beard with zero irritation. Today's soap was Cella followed up with the matching balm. A lovely three pass BBS shave was achieved , no muss and no fuss. Weekend is almost upon us. Take care and happy shaves.

And for this most foul weather of days my theme was 'icons and Ikons'

41960

Marilyn Monroe - Ikon SB on its own Ikon handle from the BST. Thanks @Paul L
Humphrey Bogart - Polsilver Lodz
Audrey Hepburn - Murdock Avalon shaving cream
Che Guevara - Razorock 400 Plissoft
Coco Chanel - Arran Aromatics Seasalt and Rockrose EDT

Today was all about having a complete Ikon razor as against to an Ikon head on some other handle. I do rather like my Ikon and it is deserving of showing itself off. As it is the handle is very nicely manufactured and certainly a shiny blingy item and I do like shiny and blingy. I would happily wear this around my neck together with my VW pendant while I trip out on E's listening to The Chemical Brothers. Which is nice

This was a 6th time out for this particular blade and to be honest the shave reflected this. As it is I managed a full 3 pass shave without drawing blood, but it was resigned to the blade bin by the end of it all. Thank you and goodbye.

Being back home it is always nice to have choice instead of the restricted items while away at work. So for this day my chosen cream is an icon in its own way in this world of shaving. If it isn't then it should be. I use this cream rather sparingly as I dread to think there will be a day where I have to scrape it all from the bottom of the jar in the knowledge that it will be an unobtainium product by then......and I shall cry. The Avalon is a wonderful cream which delivers and performs. Includes marshmallow whatever that means. Soft sticky sweets aside it is pure luxury in a glass jar. A bit like a pint.

As I mentioned elsewhere I am so impressed with the Razorock 400 another one arrived on the doorstep this morning. Postmen are great aren't they? They are also partially responsible for my declining bank balance.

The Arran Aromatics topped off what was in despite of a less than perfect blade, one very happy and smile inducing shave. Things don't have to be perfect as long as they make you happy. Ask my wife. Apparently I am questionable on the happiness front as well  Oh hum.

All this was achievable in the new vanity unit which has been replaced while I was away. The previous being smashed by my bad self using a glass bottle and stupidity. My wife actually gave me the full run of the unit for storing all my shaving and cleaning accoutrements. Aren't wife's great? mine is.

Have equally as happy shaves chaps

Sotd - yesterday - the 13th of March -

Razor - Merkur slant
blade - Gilette Silver Blue (2)
brush - Stirling two-band fan
soap - Tabac creme
post - witch hazel
a/s - Tabac
balm - De Vergulde Hand.

Result - todo bueno

Nice mix and match set up - I deserve to give the creme version of Tabac more attention - I'm a big fan of the hard tallow soap but this is equally good in its own way - super slick - and if anything the scent is even stronger - which is just fine in my book. The Vergulde Hand balm performs well for me - it is thick - between a balm and a full on moisturiser - absorbs very easily and my skin loves it. For a humble product - top end. The DVH soap is good too in my experience - if you like using La Toja or Lea sticks - give it a go - very much in the same category - it doesn't cost much. So - job done - bbs in two passes - I'm really enjoying using the Merkur slant again - a quietly brilliant razor - enjoy your shaves - yours - I.

Moss Anniversary Slate scuttle
Rooney 3/3 Ivory Finest (26/60)
Ralph Lauren Safari shaving soap (tallow)
Wolfman WR1-SB Antique Bronze/Darwin
Wilkinson 'Light Brigade' (18)
Ralph Lauren Safari aftershave balm (vintage)

Another great shave. The soap is a longtime favorite, and the balm is one of the few I like, really more like a milk. Wonderful fragrance.

Pre shave: Warm shower and Nivea face wash + Noxzema shave cream
Razor: Gillette New Standard
Blade: NOS 7 O'Clock Stainless (1972) (#1)
Soap: Haslinger Seaweed
Bowl: Korium
Brush: Semogue 610
Post shave: Alum block, cold water splash and Thayers witch hazel
AS: Lab Series Balm

A cracking shave with the NOS 7 O'Clock blade, I picked up some these ages ago and just got around to trying one. A super smooth and close shave, helped no doubt by the Haslinger soap.
