SOTD: Saturday 8 th - Friday 14 th June 2019

So let's go on a run of open combs and let us start with this little gem....1930s Gillette New SC replated in rhodium by Chris Spencer at BackRoadsGold. This one has the common bar handle and I really enjoy the smooth shaves I get with it. Honestly, your OC journey should start with a New or Old Type and as New go, the LC or SC are both fantastic.

Today's soap was RazoRock American Barber just to keep to the classic barbershop theme. Monday was the very enjoyable CBL Barbershop and so as you can't get too much of a good thing...why not.

Loaded up with a Merkur Super Platinum and got through a thoroughly enjoyable 2 pass DFS. Hump day and we are halfway through the week! Take care, safe travels and happy shaves all!

B. - your card today - Rockwell? - doesn't look urban enough to be Hopper? Having read about the recent weather down south - maybe you should have taken a punt on the Aussie rowing team? Not very patriotic behaviour - you are the cricketing equivalent of Lord Haw Haw - ha ha.

@TomG - sounds like you have been proper crook mate. Look after yourself - get well soon - yours - both - I.
It is in fact Hopper Iain. Good work though mate. As for backing the Aussies, well, a boy has to make a living.

Thanks Iain. I have indeed been crook as a dog.
Been popping more pills than Pete Doherty, except my lot are heavy duty antibiotics et al.
Thankfully have turned the corner and coming good, Cobber.
If Lord Giddens keeps up the good work, we'll offer him honorary Aussie Citizenship.
Cheers Tom. But will the fact that I don't have a criminal record be held against me?

Ha ha ha - ironic - in Boris' new Britain - you will be in the resurrected 'First Fleet' - given your fifth column activities - you might want to steal a loaf of bread or promulgate foment against the Queen - just to help you on your way. @TomG - careful what you wish for - he could be your neighbour sooner than you think. Hopper - fair enough - one of my favourite paintings is by him - 'Nighthawks' - yours - I.

It's a favourite of mine too Iain.
Living next to @TomG? Lots of top-class shaving gear to, erm, ‘borrow'. And have you seen the quality of the watches he wears?

I have a few days off (Working the weekend) but it was an early start and so far it has been a very good day.
1) The Motor bike passed it's MOT test
2) I found a pharmacy with UK Ingram Cream and cleared their stock.
3) Popped into the Antique Shop beside the Pharmacy and found today's razor. An Ever-Ready HFT in immaculate condition and it cost me only £4.

Today's shave was just perfect. 3 mild but incredibly efficient passes for a BBS finish:)
One of the best razors to break in a new GEM blade.

Chapter XXIV
Disney Strikes Back

Thirty years after........................................

CUT, CUT, CUT !! We had all this the other day. Give it a bloody rest......

In the words of Viz 'How about a video of a bloke shaving a birds arse?'

After years of numerous battles across galaxies far too far away to be too much of a concern for us and the final destruction of the Empire accumulating in the deaths of the Emperor and his henchman Darth Vader, up waltzes Walt bloody Disney and resurrects the dark side from a crumpled and battered old helmet. A bit like trying to breathe life in a knackered old blade.

R2D2 is replaced by BB8, a robotic form created from a Dyson hoover and to top it all Hans Solo is killed off by his own son. Very much in the same manner as my two granddaughters are having a damn good try with their granddad. A nicely shaven granddad, but a crumpled and battered old version.

Chapter XXV

The attack of the shave
After last nights superb shave today was more a challenge on how to have enjoyment without pushing barriers. In a similar manner to SM. After some 24 hours last night's shave remained acceptably refined, but a relaxing shave remained a must. The Ikon was the perfect answer. Two passes and as smooth as a shaven seagull. For me this razor is the 'do it all' tool and it responds wonderfully to the task in hand, be it removing a few days in the rough or a shine and polish.

Once again I find myself using the remnants of my wife's bath time shaving cream but I must say what a lady of exceptional taste (except in my case). What I do find is that OSP creams differ in feel and tact between the different scents. This one was on the heavier side compared to say the Shogun but does it matter when it did a great job.

Together with surrendering three tubs of OSP to my lady in the bath I also gave up my title to the little Muhle ivory brush. No great sadness though as compared to the heavyweight Razorock 400 it really is a piddly petite brush with a piddly petite approach. It did its brush duties but it was lacking in gusto and authority. Big hand, big brushes.

A great shave though and I can retire to bed knowing my pillow is going to love my smooth face. My wife long disappeared to bed being as she has work in the morning and how I will spend tomorrow gloating because I am still on leave. I shall also have a chat with my pillow and I only hope it appreciates the lovely M&S bergamot scent as there is no one else to share it. The cats fucked off out some time back which only goes to show what they think of my efforts.

Have a great Thursday you people of the shave and I shall sign off with some more of my favourite Japanese band of the moment

Morrisons (UK) ~ Fresh Aloe Moisturising Lotion.

Greetings,

A early morning shave. As with all my shave set ups another very diverse pick & mix, but all worked superbly together, making the start of this dull wet morning a pleasurable one.

Last use of the voskhod blade which paired up with the very assertive ming shi 2000s wonderfully, the voskhod blades pair together superbly with my more assertive razors, smooth & are very forgiving..I've been fortunate with DE blades that i have bought i've only had a few dud ones from the vast amount i have in my shaving den.

Because i haven't shaved with the ming shi 2000 s for a while i've kept all the passes + pick ups on setting 2 which mowed down my two days growth effortlessly. Setting 2 was perfect for me to get re-aquainted with this very efficient chinese made lady again.

A comfortable 3 pass + pick ups bbs smooth shave with no errors to report.

The star of the shave was the Haslinger soap.My skin type really likes shaving soaps that contain lanolin like the Haslinger Schafmilch, MWF Kent & Scottish Fine Shaving Soap have lanolin added to the soap ingredients...Which is why all are firm favourites of mine...the post shave from all these soap is totally fantastic.

Finishing to the shave off with a generous dollop of Morrisons ~ Fresh Aloe Moisturising Lotion.

My face is feeling super smooth & smelling devine.;)

Enjoy your day, ladies & gentlemen.
