SOTD: Saturday 7th - 13th of September 2019

11/9/19

Brush - Yaqi Rainbow/Faux Horse
Soap - Pre De Provence Original
Razor - Lord L6
Blade - Dorco Titan (4)
Post - Witch Hazel
Balm - Nivea Cooling
Splash - Benjamins Bay Rum Mentholated

The Dorco Titan's a blade that seems to go under the radar here, it's a reasonable blade - fairly smooth and forgiving, reminds me a Voskhod in a few ways but the Titan is inferior in all grounds I'd say. It seemed reasonable for yesterday's shave but for today's shave it was spent and I should have changed the blade mid shave but couldn't really be bothered!
I'm coming to the end of my PdP sample, and it's a soap that seems to get a lot of praise but it's not one I've really taken to. The lather's perfectly fine but in the use I kept on comparing it to an MWF lather which I vastly prefer.

Anyway chaps, have a good day.

Before anyone calls for me to be burned at the stake, I did ‘wet shave' with a brush and proper cream!

Nivea deep cleaning face wash / shower
Executive Shaving handmade bowl
Razorock BC brush
Castle Forbes Lime cream
Mach 3 Turbo cart with nice handle from Etsy
Wholly Kaw ‘Man From Mayfair' aftershave toner

I think there is definitely truth in the concept that carts CAN actually give a good shave WHEN used with good prep, cream/soap, technique, etc. . .

Was in a hurry at the weekend and stupidly used this razor with canned crap (only kept as wife uses on legs!). Result was not too bad but I felt the tugging and pulling as soon as I went over my tache. Difference between that garbage and proper shaving cream really is like night and day. Cart shave today with same razor & CF Lime cream, no discomfort at all. 3 passes, all with the grain. Even XTG hurts my face with a cart, let alone ATG. Not as close but good enough and far more comfortable than DE. I must say I'm enjoying this, no fear of slicing my face or finger open with a blade, and no prickliness on stubble regrowth that I get from DE razors. Could be the way forward for my face!

Wed 11th Sept.

Simpson Chubby 1 / Maggards 2band
Williams Mug Soap
ER " Streamline"
Gem S/S [ 2 ]
Tuff Green A/S Lotion

Shaving with a Vintage SE is probably more demanding than when using an AC/SE. However I find that with due care and attention, the "Streamline" can be used with precision to deliver a really close all round Shave. The finish acquired today is equal to the best that I get with an AC/SE.

Well done Iain, a very professional looking bar of soap. I'm sure it rivals the best of the best soap's out there! Very well presented. P. :)
Thank you for saying so P. - I started doing it because my partner has extremely sensitive skin and had problems with commercially produced soap - doing it yourself gives you control over what is in it - and what it smells of. I'll probably make some more soon - happy to send you a couple of bars to see what you think - if you like. Cheers - I.

Razor: Fatip Gentile SE
Blade: Gillette Silver Blue (3)
Brush: EJ Best Badger
Soap: TOBS St James
Pre: Proraso White
ASL: Osma Alum
ASB: Creightons

The Gentile is a little too gentle for my liking. Should that be a suprise given the name? Takes too much work to get a good finish and then irritation follows. I've swapped the Gentile plate for the Piccolo and will give that a go next.

Razor ~ Rex - Ambassador
Blade ~ Personna Med Prep
Soap ~ Eufros - Zanzibar
Brush ~ Cadman Bell handle Silvertip
Post ~ Thayers Original Astringent
Frag ~ Leather Oud - Christian Dior

My soap choice for the next seven days is Eufros Zanzibar, a wonderful soap wiith a great spicy scent.
The Rex Ambassador performed faultlessly and the Med Prep blade within certainly played it's part in giving me a BBS finish this morning.

Have a great day folks..........P.
