SOTD : Saturday 6th April - Friday 12th April

Mon 8th April

RazoRock Syn. 22mm
Lea Classic soap
Feather Neo F11
F11 [ 1 ]
Lea Classic A/S lotion

While away over the weekend had a Shave with the F11 with a worn blade, because sister in laws Bathroom lighting etc not good. As it was not bad I decided a full Shave at home would be good, to test it as A carry on/travel razor.

Mindful of how in the past Cart Shaves wreaked havoc with my skin, due most likely to poor prep and rushing - a change of technique was required. With a good lather I did not rush and tried not to use undue pressure, as a result the Shave was smooth with a good close all round finish.
In fact a finger test indicated that it was really quite good , and this would suit me as a Travel Razor. Overall Shave Time was similar to that taken when using an SE/DE. Some hours on and regrowth is not bad and I have no post Shave problems, so a follow up Shave is on the cards.

If ever there was a shave to demonstrate a more aggressive setup then this was it! The Hawk is usually a very forgiving and mild shaver, but this evening, paired with a new Feather Professional blade and Claymore handle, the razor felt deadly!

From the 1st stroke to the last it was clear this combination needed 100% concentration.

The OSP soap again gave a really good performance with a lovely scent, though inhaling deeply was the last thing on my mind. To say I was literally holding my breath is an understatement!

I risked it and went with a 3 pass shave which gave an exceptional BBS finish, though a few weepers were present. Rinsing off I could feel my skin nipping slightly even as I splashed on cold water. The Thayers cooled things very slightly with the OSP aftershave giving a rare wee nip. I'm man enough to say I let out a slight scream as the initial burn lit up my face! Honestly, I think dooking for chips would've been less painful. However the burn disappeared really quickly giving a fresh startled look! Letting it cool a bit more Bart's balm came to the rescue and doused the embers.

Feeling my face just now I'm dolphin smooth and feeling fresh.

The Feather blade and extra weight of the Claymore handle has really transformed the Hawk. I'll try a similar combination again later on in the week, maybe the original Hawk handle and Feather blade, but what a close shave!

Have a great night folks! [emoji1303]

Tonight's candidates

Pre: Pears transparent original soap
Brush: Semogue 1460
Soap: Arko stick/Macca root Eucalyptus superlather,
Blade: Astra SP (1)
Razor: Parker 89R Heavyweight
Post shave: Alum block, cold water splash, homemade Witch Hazel Lavender/grapefruit/lime/patchouli astringent,
Balm: D&G Intenseo balm
Aftershave: Floid SE Mentolado Vigoroso A/S

Trying to keep the shaves the same, tweaked my superlather with 3 drops of Eucalyptus oil. Great on the face, a nice cool hit.
A very nice razor for the money, £14.95 again. Looks much more expensive, the handle is nice to look at and great to hold.

Shave started off well, the best start of all 3 of the Parker's. Much more akin to what I have been using, 1st pass no issues, 2nd pass I caught my chin, complacency strikes again. Put a stick on & it dried straight up.
A very good 2 pass shave.
I think this one likes the Astra SP.
Well happy, the Floid SE is definitely growing on me and I do like the menthol hit when it first goes on.
Balm and a splash. BBS Skin and smelling - well - nice.
Enjoy your evening all.

Now that is the SOTD.
I have a Hawk V2 but do not have the bottle to give it a whirl yet, it's on the cards but not just yet. I was thinking to put a heavier handle on it, however, after your great post I will carefully use it standard.

Today brought a shave with the theme 'Red'

42680

Red light district - Ikon SB on an ATT Colossus handle
Red blood cell - Polsilver Lodz
Lady in red - P&B Trafalgar
Simply red - Razorock 24mm Plissoft
Red sky at night - Bath House Spanish fig and nutmeg moisturiser
Red sky in the morning - Bath House Spanish fig and nutmeg EDC
Red sky any other time of the day - Cheap red towel courtesy of a local charity shop

I have been in the Merchant Navy for 42 years now and I have always had a little giggle that when it comes to red skies we get a better deal than shepherds apparently. I am so glad I chose my career as a salty arsed sailor over rounding up sheep. Although someone did say that spending time on a ship is the same as being in prison........except we can drown as well. Married to the sea and divorced from reality.

So today saw the end of my present little jaunt of floating around in a metal box and time for a return home and the family. As per usual it always starts with having a clean, a haircut and a damn fine shave.

Shower - Check
Haircut - Check (and check out the nice lady hairdressers while there - Check - Indeed very nice)
Shave -

My shave for this evening was a trial for some new products which I bought earlier in the day while out having a haircut. What started out as a £10 trim certainly went down the road of 'unplanned extra expenditure'. I really hate all this shaving lark as it always entices me to spend more than necessary. Before a return to this 'real wet shaving' it used to cost me a tin of foam once in a while and a few blades every few years. And some terrible shaves complete with irritation of course.

Move on

This evening was also going to about nailing this P&B Trafalgar after my last outing saw a disappointing form of gloopy lather. Using my faithful lather hammer in the Razorock and amazingly some water and elbow grease, this was more like it. A thick (but not overly so), luxurious, ready to slap on my face lather, and wow, did it do its job. I managed to whip up such a mountain of white froth there was sufficient to use as a pre-wash. Unusually I also decided to use a shave oil and what a good move, or at least I think so. This was all about getting the best base I could so as to allow the Ikon to do its business.

With a Polsilver Lodz on-board this was purely heaven. It is one of those shaves which shall go down in my list of 'great memorable shaves'. Everything about it felt wonderful and the end result was astounding. Beyond dolphins, baby's bottoms.......and liver.

To finish it all off my latest purchase of 'Bath House Spanish fig and nutmeg' aftershave balm proved itself a very good buy. It is not as thick as my usual L'Occitane Cade, but it is every bit the equal as to how it settled in to my skin and gave a wonderful glow and feeling. A top notch product. Along the same line as matching ties and underpants I also purchased the matching EDC. I didn't want to purchase but after trialling I hummed and ahhed for too long when I should have walked. Bugger . Walking would have been the cheaper option. I am no great expert in the world of scents, but I do know when something is right. The Bath House is just so different to what I am used to and it simply fascinated me. By far the best of my scent purchases in the past year. I doubt it is for everyone, but it won my heart.

And to end it all a run out with the latest nose and ear trimmer. Not something I would usually write to the world about but as I mentioned elsewhere my wife would divorce me if I went down the road of 'old man unsightly facial hair'. It did a great job of not having to employ the services of a solicitor. Not as though that would be something new as we are in a second marriage to each other, As someone said at the second wedding 'If this isn't illegal then it fucking well should be'

So a great marriage saving shave and I feel dreamy, smooth as hell (ahhh home) and smelling of Spanish figs and nutmeg. A whole new level of brilliant.

I hope all your shaves are equally as rewarding and your evening a pleasant experience. No red lights for me this evening being as I am now skint. Thank God for that.
