Final go with the Tatara and although it's beautiful I find it a bit mild for my liking.
I don't mind the fact that you can't use other handles, I really like the handle and the whole balance of the razor.
As I disassemble and assemble a razor each time I use it I don't like the long thread on the handle, petty I know, but it annoys me.
Thanks to everyone who made it possible for me to try this incredibly well made and stunning razor (have I said that before?) I'm glad I had the chance to find out it's not for me.
Happy Shaving one and all.

The portus cale soap is an excellent performer as is the synth brush.
It's the first time I've used this particular blade & although very comfortable, it didn't seem that sharp. That's not a bad thing really, might be perfect in a more assertive razor.

Sotd - Sunday 6/5 & Wednesday 9/5 -

6/5 -

Razor - Yaqi open short comb on a Rockwell handle
blade - Nacet (2)
brush - Yaqi Moka two-band
soap - Ach Brito Lavanda cream
post - witch hazel
a/s - Tabac
balm - Barts Lavender lotion
scent - Caldey Island lavender edt.

9/5 -

Razor - Yaqi open short comb on a Rockwell handle
blade - Nacet (3)
brush - Yaqi Moka two-band
soap - Williams Ice Menthol cream - Spanish version
post - witch hazel
a/s - Williams Aqua Velva - Spanish version
balm - Barts Peppermint lotion.

Result - both superb in their own way - a two for one sotd post -

Used the second of my new Yaqi badgers for the last couple of shaves - it is truly a beautiful and wonderful brush - they both are - the other being an Aqua High Mountain Silvertip. I am completely impressed by the quality of these knots and handles for the money - I know - I'm late to the party on this one. You mostly see references on sotd to their synth knots - which I am not big on - each to their own. The Moka handle - I believe - is influenced by the design of the classic Bialetti stove-top pot - hence the name - appropriately enough it is a translucent coffee colour - ergonomically superb in use for me - for a 26mm knot - it is big in the hand and on the face. The knot interests me - the hair - it reminds me of my Stirling two-band fan - one of my favourite brushes. On the AliExpress page of Yaqi brushes they list a 24mm two-band fan - excepting the colour of the handle it looks identical to the Stirling butterscotch fan - I wonder if they made them for the soap company? The free razor head I received with the brushes continues to impress - a deft little thing - the blade tabs protrude on either side - great under the nose. It's not quite as assertive - or aggressive if you prefer - as I first thought - now that I have got a bit more used to it but it gives me a great shave in two passes. So impressed with the quality of the performance and manufacturing tolerances was I - there is one of their double open comb heads on its way as I type. The software I used tonight was influenced by @Barry Giddens comments about using Palmolive cream today - it's a while since I had a good 'economy' shave - You don't need to spend a lot of money to get a great result - in my opinion. Williams products are a perfect example for me. I always forget how cold the Ice Menthol is - I suppose the clue is in the name? Slickness equal to soaps at ten times the price. It costs two or three euros a tube in Spain and you can get it at an equally good price from Gemstone Trading in the UK if you fancy trying it. The aftershave is a great old school product - cheap as chips - also sold by Gemstone. Barts lotion as good as ever - the balm is great but I think the lotion is - just - the superior product for me - my skin loves it and the scents are excellent. So - job done. Sorry - no picture this post as I am back at work this week - er - taking pictures for a living. I'll try to do one at the weekend when I have the time - yours - one and all - happy shaves - I.

SOTD 08 May 2018 and 09 May 2018

Pre-shave - Warm shower, Wright's Cold Tar Soap, followed by warm water splash.
Cream - Aesop Moroccan Neroli Shaving Serum.
Brush - Simpsons Chubby 2, Synthetic.
Bowl - Little Wren Pottery.
Razor - Tuesday; Rex ambassador / Wednesday Colonial The General
Blade - Tuesday; Astra SP (Day 2) / Wednesday; Proline P-30 (Day 2).
Post shave - Cold water splash; Aesop Post-Shave Lotion followed by OSP Neroli Splash.

Jury's out on the Aesop Moroccan Neroli Shaving Serum; lather's up OK in the bowl, however, for me and I appreciate that YMMV - it dissapears like snow off a dyke when applied to my face.

Very poor in terms of protection; multiple weepers, which I have never had (Shaved with the Rex Ambassador on Tuesday and the General SS, today (Wednesday) - allbeit with far fewer weepers today.

Despite the lack of protection, very good glide and skin feels very good aftewards.

The Post shve balm has much more promise.

All the best,

Chris

Prep: Valobra Glycerlanolina soap, Myrsol Emulsion
Brush: Tony Forsyth P&C LE 2017 Platypus High Mountain White Badger
Soap: Sir Irisch Moos
Razor: Schick Injector Type G
Blade: Schick (2)
Post: Thayers Cucumber / Myrsol Emulsion
Scent: L'Artisan Parfumeur Fou d'Absinthe

I was expecting the Sir Irisch Moos to be good, but whoa! It has a nostalgic old school fresh scent, and a few notes that give away its personality as a stablemate of Tabac. I normally have to work a little to build lather on my face with sticks, but this soap lathered quickly and produced wonderful lather. Whilst I do not know for sure, I suspect it is the identical soap base as Tabac. Mäurer & Wirtz certainly know their stuff. The lather was very dense and creamy, with excellent residual slickness. Lovely post-shave feel, also. Three passes with the Type G, with a buff or two along the way, for a DFS+. A generous application of Fou d'Absinthe, and I am feeling wonderful. :D

SIM is fantastic stuff, easily the best product ive tried in stick form, I'm certain that it's the same base as Tabac, which is also a great product, I just really don't like the scent of Tabac.

I guess as I'm commenting on SOTD posts, I really should post my first ever SOTD.

Razor: Merkur 34c
Blade: Gillette Rubie (1)
Soap: Haslinger Schalfmilch
Brush: Wolf Whiskers Bishop (Burnt Oak Whiskey) 24 Tuxedo Bulb
Post: Thayer's Cucumber Witch Hazel
Scent: Wickham 1912 Russian Leather a/s

Face lather, as always. I remember @Bogeyman posting on another thread that many people have commented that that the tuxedo knots, particularly the bulb variety have a lack of splay that can be remedied with a fan knot. I find the bulb tuxedo is just fine if you exert a bit more pressure. I think many shavers consider bulbs more suited to bowl lathering, maybe, but I think I prefer bulb over fan as they give you better control in lather placement. The shave with the Haslinger was delightful as usual, I'm nearly out of the Schalfmilch ,so I'm using it sparingly. I do have an unused Coconut which I will get to eventually, such a shame they reformulated, I will not be trying the new tallowless variety. Finished with a splash of Russian Leather, lovely.

I'll be posting pictures next!
