SOTD : Saturday 4th July - Friday 10th July 2020

I almost used my mint slim today, but just can't bear to use it.
'Timorem novaculi' - there appear to have been a few cases of this on the forum recently - man up dude. That's what they are for. Ha ha - :) - I.

edit - 'a fear of razors' - it might have made more sense in ancient Greek - something ending in 'phobia' - but I can't remember the word for razor. Open to suggestions from anyone who had a good classical education - which I didn't.

And this shave was themed 'Roses are pink, violets are blue, and French shaving soaps are in pink jars'

Doesn't bloody rhyme, but who cares?

IMG_20200708_200424.jpg

Not really pink at all - Occam's Enoch
Not even a Titan Pink - Kai Captain
Where's the pink? - The Grooming room little barrel silver/grey brush
A pink jar! - Ooh la la a jar of Martin De Candre Savon A Rasen (Raisins?). Oh Raser.
Not pink flavoured - Perfumo Di Firenze

Pink. Just happens to be the favourite colour of my youngest granddaughter to the point of obsession. It appears the whole world has to be pink and the whole world is pink. God bless her and her little pink socks. It is just a shame that she is anything but pink with her wicked little sense of devilment. That's my girl. Satanfriendly'sgranddaughter

So this is the shaving soap of fable and legend then? It had better be or I will taking a trip to France to see Martin himself and saying 'No mate, no, this is not what the world of shaving talks about. This is utter expensive crap'.

First observation is the expensive cardboard packaging and the little instruction manual. 'Use a badger brush'. Buggered from the offset. Apply to beard. Well not quite a beard but I guess the beginnings of is the best I can describe it. I appear to be failing badly at the moment. Browse over the instruction manual written in both French and English. The English version I understood, the French version not at all. Read and inwardly digested. Remove large heavy jar from said quality packaging and move the box to one side for keeps and so my wife can throw it out at a later date. A jar with pink labelling. It must be a rose thing and obviously suitable for grandchildren. Twist and remove the threaded top. Nice to note that for a change the glass jar is full to the top and what an aroma. Started to sing 'In an English country garden' and my wife reminds me I can't sing.

No badgers in my house so the lovely little barrel brush is as close as I can get. I have to ask myself if this will work or have I just taken a risky purchase? Insert brush and so far so good. It takes very little soap to make a mountain of rich luxurious lather with a genuine scent of roses. The instructions lied and I did remember that I can't sing. This is not just good, but effing good.

Apply to face despite the instructions stating apply to beard and work in using the brush from the Groom room. Without even introducing a sharp blade the lather reeks of quality all round and I am not quite sure I actually want to remove it from my face. I am rather enjoying this.

As much as I wanted to give the Mongoose its third outing and have a shave themed 'A third outing for the Mongoose' I decided to go with the Enoch. I was only writing to another TSR member this evening and made mention that the more one uses the Enoch the more one comes to appreciate it virtues and abilities. It really is a superb little razor even if the blade loading remains a dodgy farcical exercise, but beyond this lies a great bristle removing tool. Personally I prefer the Kai Captain with the Enoch as it does calm down its quite aggressive aspect for me and there is a nice balance going on.

Steel meet face and away I go. The glide properties of this soap are so good I am quite convinced you could achieve a BBS with a rusty old blunt blade and never draw blood. Three full passes of sheer comfort and joy and it isn't even Christmas yet. All this and still ample lather left for another several shaves, so I give my wife the remainder for her ladies razor duties while she enjoys a relaxing bath. 'In an English country garden' voices out of the bathroom and I will give her one thing, she can sing. I can't so I don't bother with the husband and wife harmonising duet thing. A creepy thought and far too twee for us. We don't do twee. In fact the closest we come is when I wear her underwear and she happens to be wearing the same.

So one great and comfortable shave with a wonderfully smooth finish. All to be topped off with a good heady spray of my scent of the moment, Profumo Di Firenze. A real zing of citrus with woody underlays. An absolute bargain from E-Bay and highly recommended as a Summer fragrance. What Summer?

On a serious end note I will say the MdC has proven itself to be worth what it cost and I am sure a single jar will keep you in shaves for a long time and every one of those shaves would be quality. A great product if ever.

What a Japanese girly band?

Be well and healthy everyone

Greetings,

Over the past month or so all my slant razors (Merkur 37C+39C,&Parker 55SL) have excelled and gave me consistently good shaves. What more can i ask for.

Last outing of the lanolin wool fat shaving soap which has impressed me throughout the week provided me with an acceptable lather with each shave leaving a good post shave feel...Another shaving soap that i'll be adding more regularly to my soap rotation in future shaves.

The Dorco prime platinum blade has excelled my shave throughout this week with it's smooth forgiving sharpness which has been a great combo. A very good blade. I intend to carry on using my 55SL to try out the Dorco ST300 blade which will be a first for me, to compare with the Dorco P.P. blade to see if i get the same very smooth comfortable shave.

A pleasurable 3 pass + pick ups near BBS shave with no errors to report.

Finishing to the shave off with a generous dollop of L'0REAL ~ Soothing Birch Sap PSB.

My face is feeling super smooth & smelling divine.;)

Stay safe, and enjoy your Day ladies & gentlemen.

Razor - Leaf - Leaf a Shave Co ( On loan )
Blade - Hans Baier - Souplex ( Two half blades )
Soap - Signature Soaps - Lindis ( Lavender )
Brush - Simpson T3
Post - Signature Soaps - Lindis Aftershave splash ( On test for @BrianH )
Frag - Guerlain Jicky edp

Today I tried the leaf razor with just two half blades, one on the bottom and one in the middle and although I acheved the same BBS result as yesterday I had to work a little harder for it, it seems my tough grey stubble needs the three blade set up.
However it was still fun to shave with no skill needed and as I was half asleep this morning it was probably a good thing! :)

The soap was just wonderful, I love Lavender but this got me thinking...... If Brian was to add some Rosemary, Bergamont , Oakmoss and a little Peppermint he would have come up with the wonderful Oxford & Cambridge scent, Czech & Speake's take on the lavender scent which I really love! What do you say Brian? A limited edition soap maybe to celebrate the famous boat race, I would buy a box of it from you! ...........please!

Anyway, I live in hope......I finished with the splash which I am testing for Brian and I think he has nailed it! A lavender scent with a tingle followed by a really soothing feeling which leaves my skin feeling invigorated and thoroughly nourished. Good job Brian!

A couple of sprays of the wonderful Jicky on my pulse points and not only was I perfectly shaven I was smelling fabulous as well :)

Untill the next time, stay safe and be lucky,

Paul.

It looks like a torturing device to get mice to confess that they did indeed steal the cheese

Looks like I've got another project. Someone else also said that. Will have to leave Oakmoss out though (EU Regs don't allow it).
Which of the fragrances come through the most?
As they say watch this space.

Todays Shave with this new soap and its great lather really was good, an ultra close all round finish without any problems. Now ready for our first trip out, doing to quiet country pub for a meal. Now have to dig out some clothes, as have spent recent weeks in shorts/ sweats.
