SOTD: Saturday 4th January - Friday 10th January 2020.

SOTD 01/10/20

It's Fatboy Wool Fat Friday. Broke out my 1960 Fatboy (datecode F1) and whipped up my favorite soap, MWF, and proceeded to have a decent shave. Not really a fan of this razor. Cranked it up to 9, while protected by a glistening, thick Fat lather supplemented and enhanced by PAA's Preshave Cube for that first pass. The razor delivered a decent whisker reduction, but still needed two more passes for an acceptably close shave. Cranked down to 7 for the final two passes leaving me with one or two areas in my typical trouble spots which weren't as close as I'd like, but I know from experience with this razor that I should stop to avoid any bloodletting. This razor is typically a one and done. Tomorrow I'll shave with the Occam's DE razor, originally purchased as a Christmas present for one of my sons, who as it turns out is in love with his OneBlade. So I kept it after reading all the positive reviews. Today I feel clean, somewhat smooth and refreshed, and (that's) the story for Friday, and I'm sticking to it!

RAZOR: Gillette Fatboy (9,7,7)
BLADE: Suneko
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a scrub with PAA's Charcoal-Menthol Cube Preshave Soap
BRUSH: Omega Pro48 Boar
SOAP: Mitchell's Wool Fat
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by Thayers Lavender WH and finished with Royall Lyme AS Splash

Occams- Enoch
Schick Proline [ 2 ]
Pitralon Classic A/S Lotion

Prior to my second Shave with the Enoch, I noted how when rinsing the Razor by unscrewing the handle , the blade had become displaced from the rather short retaining lugs. I corrected this before todays Shave. The Shave was very good, and I had no problems getting a top quality all round finish.
On the personal front, things looking more positive re my broken leg. After further X Rays the consultant, said I could now walk with The Boot/Crutches and after 6 weeks dispense with it and try driving. I could dispense with the Boot when in a recliner with the leg elevated, also do not have to wear it in bed (y)

Moss Anniversary Slate scuttle
Rooney 3/2 Ebony Finest (24/54)
Penhaligon's Castile shaving cream (vintage)
Wolfman WR2-SB 0.95/UFO Colibri
Tiger Platinum (12)
Penhaligon's Castile aftershave (vintage)

Some of my favorite software. The Tiger blade gives me a very close shave, but it just doesn't feel as good on my skin as my other blades. It is not as rough as a Feather, but it's certainly not as smooth as a P74 or Light Brigade.

As I continue to work my way through all my creams, I'm on my final TOBS - Rose. A lovely scent and performer. I was sporting 3 days of growth so reached for the R41 which mowed it down with ease. BBS and looking gorgeous (that's normal but I'm more gorgeous when I'm freshly shaved).

Speick after shave

I probably didn't really need a shave after yesterday; but I wanted to see if MdC lives up to its almost mythical status in Shaveland.

So...

Jury's out at the minute. Once I've had a few goes with the Shavedash sample, I'll be better informed. That said, the scent is really good; redolent (for me) of classic ‘barbershop'. It lathers beautifully, even with cold water and its performance is very good (glide, cushion etc.).

I'm not sure just yet if it measures up to my particular non-tallow holy grail, Santa Maria Novella; but time will tell.

A belter of a shave this morning. All components harmonised perfectly. ‘Nuff said, methinks.

Let's try something new! The Colonial General SE - SS is raved about by many and this one is just in from a buddy. The first thing you notice about the razor is the weight and the solid build quality. Balances well and pretty impressive in the hand. Loaded up with a new Schick Pro Line AC blade.

Soap of choice today was First Line Shave Blue which is a ringer for CK Eternity. Lovely soap for a great cause. Truly enjoyable beyond the scent it lathered well and was slick. The matching AS was very nice and post shave feel was phenomenal.

Lots of lather so I went for a three pass shave however, I would have been quite happy with the results after one! BBS achieved in the end! The General is mild and smooth but mows down the beard quite efficiently! I have an iKon El Jefe that is practically terrifying to use and isn't anywhere near this beauty in efficiency and smoothness. I can see why people rave about the Colonial General.

Rating: 5 / 5
