Okay, so today is a birthday shave and a New Year shave. This would be a 3rd day in a row for me which I've not done since I started DE shaving half a year ago.

Why I decided to change so many things in one go is anyone's guess, but I'm paying for it.

I decided to try plate R5 on my 6c and for reasons unknown, I decided to use a Feather blade.

Another addition to the line up was OSP's Barber Shop soap however that performed flawlessly.

Starting the shave I was quietly confident in the blade. I could feel that the blade and plate were quite a bit more aggressive than usual but I made sure I watched my angle and pressure. The WTG pass went by with no errors.

Shaving XTG things started to liven up a bit. I caught myself at the left side of my lips and watched as claret formed then ran down. Bollocks. Not painful. Just a stupid lapse in concentration.

Rinsing at the end of this pass I could feel a slight heat around my chin.

The 3rd and final pass ATG had a few weepers around my lower chin. I could feel more heat and decided enough was enough. Could I do with a few pickups - sure. Would I regret it - definitely!

After rinsing I splashed on another new addition to my den with Epsilon Blue. It smells brilliant and is just like my barbers down the road. A splash and a scream as my face lit up! Hopping from foot to foot the burn died down and I inspected the damage. A quick touch with my styptic pencil needed....with another few ooohs and ahhhs as it made contact.

I've got a Good finish but I wasn't comfortable at all. The Feather blades will be getting passed on and I'll step back to plate R3 on my razor.

Things are beginning to cool down but I'll need to add some soothing balm to calm me down (hmmm.....I wonder - Barts???).

Have a great night folks and a happy New Year!

All the Best!

31 December

PreShave: Warm water
Cream: TOBS Platinum
Brush: Kent BK8
Bowl: My recycled cream bowl
Razor: The Sledgehammer (Merkur 39C)
Blade Polsilver (1)
Post Shave: Alum

Fragrance: Floris 71/72

Finished with the Astra yesterday, put a Polsilver in the razor. I haven't used these before (one of my recent acquisitions), so I though I'd give it a try. I'm impressed! Smooth shave, and a nice end to the year in shaving.

And for my return to SOTD after a bit of an unplanned hiatus my theme for this evening was 'Old out and New in'

20181231_195056.jpg

And so another year of being clean shaving ends with my final shave of 2018. And what a very pleasant shave it turned out to be.

Last Tango in Paris - Timeless 0.68
Last Samurai - Feather
Last stand - Razorock Plissoft 24mm
Last Jedi - L'Occitane Cade
Last Knight - L'Occitane Cade balm
Last Train to Grand Central - M&S Bergomot and Basil

As I mentioned a week or so ago life has rather overtaken me of recent and trying to squeeze in a SOTD report has been at the back of the list. But all is well that ends well and very happy to scribble away again producing protracted and boringly long SOTD's.

In case you thought I had quit shaving, grown a beard and living as a hermit on a remote Scottish isle then I am sorry to disappoint. I am still here, as cleanly shaven as I have ever been and continue to live as an anti-hermit in a Liverpool semi.

A beard? Do you take me as a hipster?

So for the last shave of the year I chose to go back to the Timeless 0,68 and strangely for me a return to using a feather blade being as I have become somewhat obsessed with Polsilver Lodz's of late. The Timeless is exactly as the name says. Timeless in design and timeless in delivering wonderful fuss free shaves. I find it very difficult to produce any form of nicks, weepers and slashers and gives a wonderful sense of confidence inspiring air about it.

Beautiful? A very subjective matter but to me it has very flowing lines and wonderful aesthetics. It lives happily by the sink as a talking point. Rob998 thinks it looks scary but has no idea of taste. Good God he is even waiting for me to pass away so he can make a claim on my Oracle record deck. But what a friend and drinking partner.

Armed with a Feather and what a very nice pairing. I forgot how good Feathers can be when they are on song. Unfortunately I had quite a few duffers in the past which saw me sway away from them, but this evening's new blade delivered and it delivered perfectly.

The Cade cream is another product which I left behind in my past but a recent revival has reminded me just how damn good the stuff is. It is up there with the best of the creams from my point of view and gives a great medium between skin and sharp pieces of steel. The aftershave balm I have mentioned before is by far the best aftershave product I can think of. Certainly in the context of my skin anyway which tends to be rather dry and very thankful of a moisturising agent. It does tend to leave a bit of a shiny finish to ones face but I am happy to look shiny. Better that than looking like a cream cracker. Try eating three of those in three minutes and then blow a candle out, Very frustrating,

The M&S Bergamot and Basil was a present from my wife this Christmas and I must say she is a woman of good choice. It does tend to be a little alcohol heavy at first and the scent is rather hidden behind the initial aroma, but give it a few seconds and one is left with a very pleasant and light fresh smell. Its longevity is not too bad either. A nice little gem of a present from a nice little gem of a lady.

So my last shave of the year sets the standards for the shaves of the next. Blemish free and as smooth as James Bond (who happens to be on the TV at the moment). I don't happen to be as handsome and I don't own an Aston Martin, but shit I bet I have a smoother face.

And...........

I WISH YOU ALL A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR AND THE MOST WONDERFUL YEAR AHEAD.

Great choice of music @Satanfriendly Reminds me of some epic nights at the Mardi (just off Bold St) in the late 80s/early 90s when I was young and pretty.....Well, young, at least....
Happy New Year Sir.
