SOTD . SATURDAY 28th JULY - FRIDAY 3rd AUGUST 2018.

Monday 30th July

Pears Glycerine Soap
Proraso Green Tea and Oatmeal Preshave Cream
GFCC Caribbean Lime Shaving Cream
SMF 2007 Classic Silvertip by Rooney
Giles Shaving Co Bowl
RazoRock Hawk with a Feather SuperPro Blade
Alum Block and Rinse
Thayers Original Witch Hazel
Aloe Vera Gel
Old Spice Fresh Lime AS

A very enjoyable shave today. It is amazing how much tastes in brushes have moved on and it has been a long time since I painted masses of lather on to my face with a mop of silvertip badger! I think the SuperPro has reached the end of its serviceable life which I questimate to be somewhere around 12 shaves. It was beginning to tug just a little.
3 passes for a wonderful close shave:)

A very nice shave today, same as yesterdays. The Nuavia Nera is lovely stuff but I personally prefer the Verde, one of my selling regrets... I like the blade and razor but out of all my current crop of razors this one is probably last, I like it but prefer my others. Found the Arzachena in a shoe box, forgot I had it and thought I had sold it, I don't have the cream to go with it anymore so just using it for the sake of using it up.

Well the Phoenix Artisan accoutrements Alpha Ecliptic razor arrived, I was away for the weekend so with 3 days growth I decided to give it a go. I had been looking forward to trying a slant as I have read they are better suited to thick coarse beard which mine is, pre was a hot flannel and went all out today with PAA using their Beach soap and one of my own brushes 26mm plisson synthetic, 10 swirls around the pot and great lather and scent.. well quite sweet like a very mild not the beach more like a boardwalk past the sweet and popcorn stalls. Was a bit fearful of this razor due to the blade exposure but after the 1st pass wow, cut through no glided through my beard so smooth lots of audible feed back no knicks cuts or rivers of blood. The head I found gets the blade angle right first time and there does seem to be a side suited for left and right side of the face. So all in all a fantastic 3 pass shave no cuts no irritation from a great razor and soap.

11th DE shave

Prep: Warm water rinse then Nuage shaving oil
Soap: Musgo Real Classic
Brush: ES Medium Jock synthetic
Razor: Merkur 34c
Blade: Gillette 7 O'clock Sharp Edge (6)
Post: Cold rinse, LEA after shave balm.

BBS shave this evening. I can't quite put into words how much I'm enjoying this. Is it sad that I'm driving home from work thinking about what time I'm going to shave in the evening?

I got home to find a wee package had arrived from www.shavedash.com. I've set those samples aside for the weekend [emoji51]

I again stuck to my usual routine which seems to be working well for me now. Can I just say thanks to everyone who has given me advice and tips so far.

I tried razor buffing and J hooking during my touch ups just to see what difference, if any, it made. They both worked well on my neck, giving a nice clean and smooth finish. No cuts or weepers so I'll take that as a success. This is my final shave with this blade as it was beginning to drag towards the end. 6 shaves isn't too bad!

Applying the LEA balm gave me a nice cool soothing burn which disappeared quicker than it arrived. Awesome.

My only gripe, if you can even call it that, is when it comes to clean up. The soap seems to leave a waxy ring around the sink which my stubble seems to weld itself to. It's a minor gripe though it gives me more time with the left over lather plastered over my face as I clean up! [emoji1360]

A great shave. Have a great evening folks!

PS - I'm going to Dundee tomorrow so I might pop into the Gentleman's Groom Room (uh oh)

And for this evening the theme for this particular shave was 'A Grand day out and not so grand Grand hotels'

20180729_223142.jpg

Cutting team - Ikon SB - ATT Colossus - Polsilver Lodz
Brushing team - Muhle Synthetic Butterscotch
Creaming team - OSP Shogun
Fluffing team - ADP Colonia Club

Conventional is not a word in my wife's book of life and hence due to unconventionalism my day started with me driving to Scarborough so that I could overnight in a different hotel. The words in and laws do have some input here. The hotel of choice being the inappropriately named, 'Grand'.

It may have been once but it certainly isn't now. The reception area being more Crufts and the rooms more Crofts.

After a very pleasant drive over from Liverpool; some jollification in the way of a comforting shave was very much a must more than a need.

The bathroom. Cats, dead and swinging do come to mind. Over flowing and toilet likewise.

The razor. A peach if ever. The Ikon SB is about as agressive as I could go. To me this is the sort of razor where the bristles fall out on a voluntary basis as it is a better option to commit barbicide than to be sliced by this vicious bastard. The weight of the handle not really making life as a Polsilver blade any easier. But, taking care and being of sound mind the results are first class. No nicks, no weepers, no irritation and a shave so fine it should be auctioned.

My obsession with OSP creams continues and the Shogun is another piece of their wonderful sense of scents. Lemongrass by the bucket full with overlays of ginger and chang thrown in for good measure. You could swear this was created after an evening in a Thai restaurant. Good job James hadn't been to Harry Rammsden's the evening before he dreamt this one up.

The brush? It is a Muhle. It is synthetic. It is Butterscotch in colour. It does a great job. A grand hotel tea cup serving well as a lathering implement. And makes wonderful black lemon tea after the Shogun

ADP because when life isn't so grand and Grand hotels likewise, it makes one feel a million dollars in a two dollar establishment. Certainly one of my favourites in the scent side of the cabinet.

So despite my evening starting as a judge in a 'best mutt competion' in the hotel reception at least I did end up as 'top dog' with a very perfectly groomed face.

Happy and bunnies

On an after note. I did end up changing rooms at 1030 at night when the bathroom was more paddling pool.

Oh hum. These things are sent to try us

It was inspiring when someone put a red flower motif in a little white jar on a yellow leaf on a new stone pillar work placed by the pond in a park, as an objet d'art, and by happenstance found inclusion in a shaving gear picture . . .

~SOTD~

Prep ~ Shower, Valbora Glicerlanolina Soap
Razor ~ Blackland Dart
Blade ~ Iridum Polsilver Poland ( NOS ) Thanks going to @Dobbo25
Soap ~ Noble Otter ~ The Trail
Brush ~ YaQi Moka Express Badger
Post ~ Thayers / Jojoba Oil
Scent ~ Roja Amba Aoud Perfume Oil

Breaking all the rules, new razor, blade, soap, it wasn't me it was Blademonkey:)
Anyway the soap was good, great scent, great lather, slick during shave but not much residual slickness but I suppose as long as it's slick on the razors pass that's all that matters. Post shave feel.....good not great but good, it's only my first use so don't sweat it it could get better! Will keep you updated.
Razor and blade combo......sweet. These blades could be better than my favourite brown box Polsilver Stainless.....could be, I will need a few more shaves and will let you know.
The Razor.......Perfect, it's lke a lady she needs a light touch, she won't respond well to any heavy hand or rough treatment , respect her and she won't bite
Roja Amber Aoud Perfume Oil......just Perfection......smelling like a King......and I'm not talking Burger King , you get me :)

Have a nice day people
:) P
