SOTD: Saturday 28th December 2019 - Friday 4th January 2020.

Today's razor the venerable Gillette Super Speed (40s style) but a 1953 to be exact. Love this razor but I have a British Aristocrat Junior from the same era that quite easily trumps this one. Loaded up with a Polsilver IR.

New Year and a whole new soap set. Sni Mato is quite a unique scent and though I like it quite a lot Mrs. S, can't get around the “morning dew” component. In fact, she has replaced it with another rhyming three letter word. This is the first Declaration Grooming soap in the den and I have to say the Icarus base which is raved about by many is an exceptional soap. Bloomed it for a couple of minutes and the Yaqi SF whipped up just about the best lather I have had in a long, long time. Lovely stuff.

To work and through a lovely three pass BBS shave. Grabbed the matching CL post-shave toner and AS. Lovely scent and exceptionally nice on the face. All around this is a great combo. Think though I might pack it for the next time I hang with the wolves up North...enjoy the day!

Mini-Review - Signature Soaps Hibernia

The second soap from Signature Soaps that I have now tried. The soap texture is more a soft 'croap' - of similar texture to Declaration Grooming soaps.
The scent is fresh and delightful - the main notes I detect are lemongrass and citrus; looking up the details on the maker's website, I see that the scent is comprised of Lime, Lemon, Lemongrass, Sweet Orange and Lavender Essential Oils. The scent strength is mid from the container, and remains mid-strength throughout the shave.

As with the previous Signature soap that I tried, Hibernia is very easy to lather and reach correct shaving hydration levels. The soap has a very good lather yield per soap mass - I probably had enough lather for 5 passes from an almond-sized blob of soap. The cushioning and slickness were pretty good, but for some reason not as stellar as the previous Signature Soap I used. Maybe natural variation or the Shaving Gods were not with me? I guess further use will tell the tale. The post-shave feel was very good.

In summary, I liked this product and would consider purchasing it. It has a glorious scent, is very easy to lather, is a good performer, and has a very nice post-shave feel. I will test it a few more times to confirm performance characteristics.

Keep up the good work, @BrianH.

After the utter disappointment of yesterday's dismal shave tonight my themed shave was 'Return and redemption'

IMG_20200103_192330.jpg

Return of the King - Brass Colonial General
Return of the Sharpbladeable - Kai Captain
A brush with redemption - Cadman 30mm Tuxedo
Something to dip the redeeming brush in - Alvarez Gomez
Some smelly stuff - Penhaligon's Bayolea

This was all about Revenge and Redemption with capital R's and boy oh boy was it just heaven compared with last night's Hellish nightmare. A home town shave I guess. Glad I don't frequent home too often.

Everything came together beautifully and harmoniously with the Colonial leading the way in a leading the way kind of way. The Alvarez doing a sterling soapy job under the direction of the Cadman. What a soap and what a brush.

Altogether a grinning inwardly shave and happier than these ladies preparing for a shave while under going psychiatric treatment using the latest in mind influencing headwear.

In fact so happy bring on the Japanese girlie's and the very pretty Aldious
