SOTD : Saturday 28th April - Friday 4th May 2018.

And on this particular day my chosen theme was 'The Return of the King'

uc

King R89 Colossus Polsilver Lodz III
Queen Best badger (Traditional Shaving Co)
Prince Edwin Jagger the Menthol
Princess Cade de L'Occitane

Bugger me another royal wedding and I really thought Henry VIII had been and gone. Obviously six wasn't enough. Did they give free television days on each of his weddings?

So a bit of a Lord of the rings shaving theme based on the fact I arrived back up North today. After my Premier Inn adventures down south and after a week of using the same gear I have choice again. In this case King R89 of Lodz. My dreamy heavenly pairing as I noted on an earlier posting.

Not the same level of ultimate Wow factor as the Timeless but a damn brilliant shave if ever. I do notice it clogs more but I put that down to design and at the end of the day the R89 is very budget in comparison. However as a budget level razor it really does offer a wonderful top class performance.

The blade I say no more. Anne Boleyn would have much preferred a demise using this blade than a chunk of metal with a blunted edge being swung in the general direction of her neck.

'Oh there is a brush heaven'. A very welcome change and a brush which actually brushes as against to a brush which decorates the bathroom mirror as it throws its contents around the place.

EJ because it is nice and does cool in a cool way

A shave made in heaven out of baby's bums

The King has returned. God shave the King

SOTD, Monday 30 April 2018 :)

Pre-shave - Warm shower, Wright's cold tar soap, followed by warm water splash.
Cream - Speick.
Brush - Simpsons Chubby 2, Synthetic.
Bowl - Little Wren Pottery.
Razor - Muhle R41.
Blade - Astra SP (Green) (Day 3).
Post shave - Cold water splash; Clinique Post Shave Balm followed by Myrsol After Shave Balsamic Water.

IMG_1160.jpg

A lovely 2 pass shave, WTG and XTG on the face, with WTG and ATG on the neck. DFS + BBS - shave, with no issues to report.

The R41 is a joy to use, now that I feel more confident with it. As ever YMMV :)

All the best,

Chris

Sotd - Monday 30-4 -

SR-Sotd2.jpg

Razor - Mergress (1.5)
blade - Polsilver SI (6 and out)
brush - Simpsons P8 Phyl best badger
soap - Vreto Mandarin and Orange
post - witch hazel
a/s - OSP Orange and Patchouli
balm - none
scent - Hermes Eau D'Orange verte.

Result - my my - that was good.

First use of the Vreto soap - which I believe is Serbian in its manufacture. It came from a group buy in another place that I am not a member of - thank you very much @Barry Giddens for picking me up a couple as part of his purchase. A proper gent and he epitomises all that is good in our shaving community - share and share alike. I had no expectations of the soap - just something new to try - but lordy it is good. This is what is in it -
'Coconut Oil, Shea Butter, Stearic Acid, Sodium Hydroxide, Potassium Hydroxide, Lanolin, Glycerin, Silk, Raw Honey, Sodium lactate, Benzyl alcohol, Dehydroacetic acid, Scent.'
Works for me - it is mightily thirsty though - I added driblet after driblet of water into the knot - thinking that I might push it too far but it just kept taking the moisture. Sweet spot achieved - a fantastic lather. I had read stuff by the soap maker that he was more concerned by the face feel rather than the scent - I was expecting it to be mild but this was not my experience. I could smell it strongly through the shave - lovely - mandarin on top - as if you were peeling one. I deliberately didn't use a balm afterwards to get a judge of the face feel - very good - top end for me. It dovetailed beautifully with the OSP Orange and Patchouli and then Hermes Orange Verte to finish. I am very fond of my citrus scents and this soap has gone straight up there in the list - I'm not sure if you can buy it on the open market? Don't know. If you can - get some. So - the end of the Mergress versus Rockwell experiment - conclusions? The Rockwell is ever so slightly more comfortable in use - I mean ever so slightly - but the most important thing I have learned is that razors dialled down in their aggressiveness is the way to go for me. The Rockwell on the two plate and the Mergress set on 1.5 will deal with a four day growth effortlessly. Lesson learned. It is one of the great things about 'proper' shaving - every day is a school day - enjoy your shaves one and all - yours - I.

Greetings,

The astra s.s./ parker 22r duo was a very good match, non-aggressive, but smooth & efficient at the same time.

The maca root cream was superb, i can't believe, i've had this cream well over a year now, and it hardly looks as though i've used any at all.

A very comfortable 3 pass + pick ups smooth shave with no errors to report.

Finishing the shave off with a generous splash of duru : mandalina cologne..wonderful stuff!..very refreshing.

My face is feeling smooth refreshed, & smelling devine.;)

Enjoy your day, ladies & gentlemen.

When I gave my new brush its recommended first shampoo, I used some 'Coconut & Lychee' shampoo that my wife had picked up at Lidl. It was touch and go as to whether it was an improvement over 'Eau de wet dead badger'.

I had originally planned to do this morning's shave with my Meißner Tremonia Wild Woods soap (the resized picture's sitting on my desktop waiting to be pasted in), but at the last moment decided to stick with the EJ Limes & Pomegranate, and my brush is a joy to sniff.

Happy sniffing, I mean shaving, everyone.

Tuesday 1st May

Birch Tar Soap
Vitos Pre Shave Cream:)
Cyril R Salter Tallow Soap
Omega 11137 Boar Brush
Yaqi 'Charcoal' Razor with a n NOS UK Wilkinson Sword Blade
Alum Block and Rinse
Arko Lavender Sensitive ASB
Agua Lavanda Puig
Worth pour Homme EDT

First use of the 11137. I think this is probably the same knot as is found in the 10051....just a much nicer Ash Handle. Good backbone (25 x 50 knot) and an absolute lather monster. The fridge treatment worked well!

3 passes for a wonderful BBS shave
