Sotd - today - Tuesday the 30th of October -

Razor - Mergress (1.5)
blade - Aussie Spoiler (15)
brush - Yaqi Moka 2 band
soap - Kent hard tallow (stealth MWF)
post - witch hazel
a/s - Nivea Sensitive Cool - alcohol free
balm - La Toja Neutro - alcohol free.

Result - all good -

Everything an evening shave should be - an unhurried mimsy - a long shower in just slightly too hot water - let the den fill with steam - not great from a carbon footprint point of view granted - but I don't have a car - so I feel I can justify it now and again. Software choices very much still in - be nice to my skin mode - talking of which - for the last two or three months - I have been testing - in a very not that scientific way - the technique of applying the left over lather in the knot to your face for a few minutes - as you do the initial tidy up - wash your brush out, clean the razor and a bit of a wipe down of the bowl. Washed off with warm water - then cold - thence onto the witch hazel and onward. Does it work? I would say yes - for me - very much so. I tried using the remaining soap as 'post' - alternatively between shaves - with products that I had good experience with - to reasonably judge whether it added anything. Good for me - particularly with old school hard soaps - tallow and or lanolin - Kent, Haslinger, Tabac and Monsavon - that sort of thing. Give it a go - see what you think. The Kent I used tonight - I would recommend to anyone - if you are cool with non-vegetarian products containing lanolin - not least for its performance, cost and ease of availability - but also - it is almost sentient - if you don't use it in a while - it goes in the huff - developing fissures and cracks on the surface - that mostly disappear when you get it wet again. This is one of the few soaps that I - sort of - bloom before using. Point a decent two-band, boar or horse at it - and you can't go far wrong - in my experience. While the Nivea Sensitive is a fine product - it is really a girls aftershave? - if I was in a freak accident tomorrow that led to my demise - and someone was writing my shave obituary - would I be content with that being the last splash I used? Hell no. Ha ha - my face feels just great - I hope you all have great shaves - yours - I.

I was the lucky winner/recipient of the @pjgh PIF a couple of weeks ago. Apologies for my slow try-out of this wonderful package but I had started using Thayer's Witch Hazel and it broke me out in a terrible bout of adult acne and took me a while to work out it was the Thayers that had caused it!

Anyway, complexion now restored I've had the chance to do the full PIF SOTD using this particular mix of items which are very much outside my past experience, so thank you so much to @pjgh!

Razor: Gillette Slim Twist
Blade: SuperMax Blue Diamond
Soap: RazoRock P.160
Brush: Semogue 1305
AS: Seick Men Active

I've never used anything like this before, this is my first use of a non-synthetic brush and what an eye-opener - I now know what backbone actually is, and I LIKE IT. The razor and blade combo gave me a nice and easy drama-free shave. I could totally see these working together if I need to have an absolutely irritation free shave, very comfortable mild yet thorough shave and I'll definitely be working my way through the blades. The P.160 was a nice change from my usual fruity soaps - I've never been a fan of marzipan other than in a bakewell tart, but this stuff worked very nicely indeed.

Again thanks to @pjgh - total legend and I hope to put together a PIF of comparable quality/variety for someone else myself soon!
