SOTD : Saturday 26th May - Friday 1st June 2018.

would I be right in saying they are two wee badgers?

Indeed P. - they were made for me by a school friend of my other half - by a process called felting, I believe. She - Karin - the spelling is correct, she's half Swedish - apparently that's how you spell Karen in Sweden - does this sort of thing for a living - which strikes me as a pretty cool way to pay the rent. She will make you pretty much any animal you can suggest - if I remember correctly - her company is called Celestine and the Hare - it's an Etsy sort of thing - no shit. According to their maker - the badgers are father and son - I think she's a bit - in the nicest possible way - mental. Probably a given if you make felted animals as your day job. Ordinarily - my badgers - when not being photographed for a sotd - they live in the book case behind me as I type these things. I swear that they move around at night when nobody is looking - they never seem to be in the last place you left them. Who's the mental one - I wonder? Yours - I.

I don't mean to put the wind up you Iain, but I'm fairly certain that those badgers will kill you in your sleep. They have seen what happens to their brethren in your house.

Pre Shave: Hot Shower + Bulldog face scrub and Proraso white
Razor: Claymore V2
Blade: Schick Proline (#6)
Brush: Razorock 400
Soap: Vitos Extra Super
Bowl: Korium
Post: Alum Block, Cold water and Thayers Cucumber Witch Hazel

That was one very close shave, only two passes needed. One very tiny weeper but that stopped even before the Alum.

Ha ha ha - if you don't hear from me again B. - you'll know what happened. I can see the headlines - 'shave aficionado mauled by badgers in revenge attack - police baffled.' Do badgers maul? Maybe I'll get TB? By the same token - I'll try not to let pigs and horses into my flat. I.

SOTD 26 May 2018

Pre-shave - Warm bath, Epsom Salt soak, post bath face wash Wright's Cold Tar Soap, followed by warm water splash.
Cream - Ingram Cream (passes 1 and 2) Aesop Moroccan Neroli Shaving Serum.
Brush - Simpsons The Duke 2, Best Badger.
Bowl - Little Wren Pottery.
Razor - Rockwell 6S (Plate 4).
Blade - Perma-Sharp Super Stainless (Day 1).
Post shave - Cold water splash; OSP Eucalyptus and Menthol Splash, Aesop Moroccan Neroli Post-Shave Lotion.
Cologne - Trumpters Sandalwood.

Best shave in a long time :)

Not had much time to post recently, work busy, earlier this week shaved with the Chubby 2 Synthetic, which sadly has since been binned; clumps of the knot fell out! I don't know what happened, perhaps the glue gave way? I look after my brushes, water never to hot etc.

I loaded the Rockwell 6S with a Perma-Sharp Super Stainless; kindly donated from Ian at the Gentlemans Groom Room. First time I have used the Perma-Sharp, what a blade - sharp and smooth.

Also a first shave with the Ingram cream, nice lather, which gave good protection and glide. However, I was hoping for more of a menthol kick, which seemed to be AWOL.

I decided to go with the Aesop Shave serum for the final ATG pass; the first 2 passes were WTG and XTG. I had problems with the Aesop shave serum in that in previous shaves there was no body; it dissapeared off my skin like snow off a dyke. No such problems this time. I don't know what made the difference, perhaps the badger brush - previously I have used synthetoc brushes with the Aesop shave serum. Wow; this time good body and protection from the shave - fab!

I finished with the OSP splash, which was cooling and refreshing; the smallest of dabs of the Aesop post-shave lotion, left the skin feeling devine. After a few sprays of the Trumpter's Sandalwool cologne to finish off.

The hardware and software came together; the Rockwell on plate 4 loaded with a Perma-sharp felt invincible and safe; the Chubby badger felt good, slightly abrasive on the skin in a good way. The Ingram cream was solid, great protection - super glide from the Aesop shave serum on the final pass; and post shave routine was delightful.

Gutted about the Chubby synthetic getting binned; that was a great brush - I may get another in time.

Hope all is well with everyone.

All the best,

Chris
Excellent shave report, quick get that handle out of the bin.

I didn't want to be the one to tell you, but as our friend Socrates said:
"Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle."..
...so I'll leave it up to someone else to tell you.

Sunday

Pre: Shower with a nice soap
Razor: Merkur Progress 500 - Setting 2.5
Blade: Derby Premium (3)
Soap: Waldfussel Fruit & Passion
Brush: Yaqi 24mm synthetic
Post: Alum, Humphrey's Witchhazel, Bulldog After Shave Balm

Setting 2.5 on the Merkur might be the limit for me and shaving daily. Got a few blood spots, nothing serious though. The skin is tingling a bit.
I've tried the Waldfussel soap for the fist time. While it foams up alright and easy, the lather dissipates on the face pretty quick and you need to repaint your face again. The skincare-aspect of it might be good, but it lacks the fun & foamy part. The scent was nice. The puck is not overly hard, maybe just a little bit harder than a Wickham soap, but those come in a tub.
I wanted to try them, as some of the soaps are vegan and free from palm oil.

I have three different 50g pucks, so I will test them some more, but from my first experiment, I think, that this soap might be better suited for the shower and body shaving. It might be an idea for legshaving ladies.

I got a pretty close shave but I will dial down the setting tomorrow again.

SWMBO has emptied some bad stuff into the bin after emptying the fridge - no way is that handle getting out of the bin :)

All the best, Chris
