New to me razor and @RussellR5555 very kindly popped in some extra blades so I got to work testing out the new toy....I was too eager.

Started on setting 4 for the WTG pass..all good and felt smooth but I didnt feel it was taking much off so I went up to setting 5 for the XTG pass...and it all went downhill from here.
Poor technique on my part and I should have stayed on that setting or went down but from here on in, I was on a recovery mission.

Down to setting 2 for the ATG pass but the damage was done. The alum block paid for itself tonight

Couldn't wait to get the nivea balm on to cool the razor burn.

If every single shave was perfect at this stage of my wet shaving journey, I'd be worried. Not be to deterred ill start on a lower setting tomorrow, possibly with a different blade and see how we go.

Happy Wednesday!

International Tiger Day

And to celebrate the day, an image of a 1966 Sunbeam Tiger, the 'poor man's Cobra,' just like the one I had in the good old days of the late 80s.

Rockets? So I believe as I wasn't there thank God, but understand he ran aground off the East Coast and fired off all the pyrotechnics. Floated free and buggered off without updating the Coastguard or anyone. What started off as a stranded ship became a search for a sunken ship. All this while they were sat in port somewhere. He was simply a complete idiot. I ended my time with him stood on the quayside refusing to come back onboard as I had had enough. The company were quite understanding as I don't think I was the first.

Best name I met down the years was 'Rubber Spanner'.

I could write a book on my life at sea but it would be considered fiction. Plus I can't write

Married to the sea and divorced from reality

You don't need to write a book! I'm sure myself any many others would like to read other of your stories from the sea. Instagram or something could be a good medium!

On the road of “mild” and nothing is quite as nice as a Gillette Blue Tip Super Speed. Loved the Tech shaves and really wanted to move on to the “trio” which is what I am doing here. This Blue Tip is from 1956 as is its Flare Tip and Red Tip brothers. Loaded up with a fresh GSB.

Soap or cream of the day is Gentleman's Tonic Babassu and Bergamot from the UK. Think wonderful and clean “barbershop” and you've got the scent profile down. It is quite nice though one that doesn't come up often in rotation. Time to change that. A little scooped out into the shaving bowl goes a long way and it is performs well though needs a bit of water to get there.

Lovely three pass BBS shave achieved and topped off with a double whammy favourite in Issey Miyake L'Eau D'Issey Pour Homme aftershave balm and EDT! Holy jumping! Epic shave on a Wednesday? Why not?! Take care, safe travels and enjoy your shaves!

The Progress, being a bit top heavy requires very minimal pressure.
The smoothness easily draws you in to a false sense of security - and that's when it bites you.
Try some pure Aloe Vera gel for razor burn - it cools and soothes better than Nivea balms.

I'm rapt - by your sea tales - how did - even within the pantheon of maniacs you both describe - did 'Rockets,' get his name? - or indeed 'Captain Jesus.' I used to climb with a guy - not for very long - who was known as 'Harpic,' - which I fairly quickly came to understand - meant - that he was 'clean round the bend.' :). I.

@merchant_seaman

From memory a selection of nicknames at sea; The Frog, Burglars Dog, The Claw, Shoulders, Nodding Dog, Destroyer, Captain Sausages, theres loads more but not suitable for a family site like this.

Mine too!

You eventually changed the blade. Will this one last as long as the previous feather do you think?

Wilkinson Wednesday

Pre - Shower / Face wash
Soap - Wilkinson blue bowl
Brush - GFT Best Badger
Razor - Merkur 34G
Blade - Wilkinson (5)
Post - Alum followed by some moisturiser

I though I was having a good shave until I used the Alum, only for it to disagree. Still it's a close shave.

Ha, time will tell... I usually get +/- 12 shaves out of a Schick Proline, but the Feather Super gave me 18 great shaves! Could be a coincidence, but it prompted me to load another one so I can see what happens this time.

Besides, I used to think that Proline gave me the most comfortable/best/closest shave in my brass General. I didn't even consider Feather Super in the General for the longest time, but it has pleasantly surprised me and it turns out to be an excellent blade in this razor.
