Fri 31st Aug
Vintage v Modern SE- 50/50 Shave

RazoRock Plissoft 22mm
P & B Citrus Royale
A. LH side, ATT SE-G modified base plate + Gem S/S [ 3 ]
B. RH side, Ever Ready Streamline + Gem S/S [ 3 ]
Pitralon Classic A/S Lotion

Decided that another head to head with this Razors was in order , while the blades were in good condition. This time used the modified SE-G on my more hard to Shave RH side , and noted it took longer to get an ultra close finish than with the Streamline yesterday. The Streamline completed the Shave with ease , and I was more than pleased with the whole Shave, not only ultra close all round but obtained fault free with no post Shave irritation.

Please note that I am not reporting on a Shave with an original ATT SE-G , which has not worked for me. I have been using one with a modified base plate, crafted by Paul @Blademonkey who also was dissatisfied with the performance of the original. On balance I prefer my favourite Vintage SE as it is slightly more aggressive and provides a quicker Shave , and I find the blade loading and securing of the top cap on the SE-G a bit awkward at times. My Streamline cost a lot less than a SE-G, and though not S/S is likely to last a lifetime. Perhaps ATT have now got their latest SE-G to perform, but IMHO is unlikely to be better than your favourite Vintage SE.

I have had a fun week using this Razor so well modified by Paul, that it does provide more than a decent Shave
for someone with my tough beard like mine.

Prep: Warm rinse followed by Nivea Sensitive Face Wash then Proraso Pre Shave cream Eucalyptus and Menthol
Soap: Proraso Green Eucalyptus and Menthol
Brush: Executive Shaving Medium Jock synthetic
Razor: Schick Adjustable Injector
Blade: Schick Injector (3)
Post: Cold rinse, Thayers Witch Hazel with Cucumber then Proraso Aftershave balm Eucalyptus and Menthol.

A return to the Schick Adjustable razor. I went with a 3 pass approach dialling in settings 3, 2 and finishing on 1.

My last few uses of this razor have been reasonable, but not quite to the standard I've been getting with my Merkur 34c.

Today was a positive change! I felt so much more confident with the blade angle and it certainly showed with the final result.

A BBS finish with no irritation or weepers. The Proraso products performed well and have given me a boost this evening. I do like the Menthol approach though I've used other creams and soaps which give smoother razor glide and a more slick feel during rinses. My skin seemed dry again towards the end of each pass though the balm at the post stage gave me some suppleness back. I'm sitting here typing and thinking I might add a bit more balm just for a bit more moisture.

A good day today and I've got that Friday feeling. Bring on the weekend!

Have a great night folks. I've just poured myself a house measure of Drambuie! [emoji482]

SOTD Friday 31 August 2018 :)

Pre-shave: Warm shower face wash Wright's Cold Tar Soap and cold water splash.
Soap: Martin de Candre Fougere.
Brush: Simpsons The Duke 2 Pure Badger.
Bowl: Aesop.
Razor: Fatip Piccolo.
Blade: Astra SP (Day 3).
Post: Cold water splash and Myrsol After Shave Balsamic Water.

Been very busy at work and away for a few days with SWMBO; first SOTD for a while.

I picked up some Martin de Candre from the Gentlemans Groom Room, I asked Ian for his view, he simply replied "its Martin de Candre" with a confident smile and a shrug of the sholders. At that point I was hooked :)

As ever YMMV, "Martin de Candre" did what it said on the tin - amazing stuff - excellent skin properties; great lather, glide, protection and an amazing post shave feel. On reflection Ian's sale pitch was perfect, possibly the simplist, best and most honest delivery of a review of a product I have heard in a long time. His few well chosesn words said a lot.

The FaTip Piccolo is a fun razor - efficient and very comfortable. I have been switching between the Picilo and the Blackland Dart recently. I tend to go for a 3 pass with the Picilo with a 2 pass on the Dart.

I hope that everyone is good.

All the best,

Chris

Fat Friday Shave

RazoRock 400
Mitchell's Wool Fat soap
Rockwell 6C R4
Voskhod (1)
Floid Mentolado Vigoroso ASL

My last shave at home for a week as I'm off to Ayrshire for a week's holiday tomorrow.

Everything worked as it should without mishap.
BBS finish easily achieved in two passes.

I've got my holiday shaving kit packed. Keeping it simple - one soap, one razor, one aftershave and one brand of blade, and two EDP's (10ml Creed Decants)
