SOTD: Saturday 20th April - Friday 26 th

Thanks for the question @Satanfriendly. In truth, no. Both sides of the razor are equally efficient, but they each have a different character, so it's more a matter of have some fun with it.

It was curiosity as I found the OC very much on the mild side while the closed very aggressive and ended up swapping my OC plate for another SB. I wondered if the OSS is much the same.

Both Clog pruf and Arran soap performed exceptionally.

Tue 23rd April

RazoRock Syn. 24mm
P & B Spitfire
Schick E2- Canada
Schick S/S- Japan { 7 }
P & B Spitfire A/S Lotion

Though the Shave felt smooth enough, it was obvious that the blade had run its course as the Finish was way below par. Rather disappointing as these blades are quite pricey, will have to check to see how they go in other Razors.

Well after a lovely holiday weekend I decided to reach for the last Aristocrat (or the first) in the collection. This set is beautiful and the French Ivory case in very fine condition. The interior has been redone and cleaned up quite nicely. The blade banks came with unused and period correct 3 hole blades and an unopened tuck of the same. The single ring included in the set is in very fine condition and though it would be from perhaps the very end / beginning of the serial number / no serial number era, I do believe it may be a mismatch. However, it is a beautiful set that has withstood the test of time. Aristocrat indeed! It was loaded up for today's ritual with a Gillette Platinum.

Today's soap was Barrister & Mann Tuesday. Yes, apropos indeed! Love the lavender and violet in this scent and it is just so easy to use.

Lathered up with the Chubby 1 and enjoyed a wonderful three pass BBS shave. I enjoyed the New LC Shave earlier last week but this single ring is hard to beat! It is near perfect in its weight and balance and shaves incredibly well! Hope everyone enjoyed a wonderful long weekend. Happy shaves all!

I would say that both sides of the OSS are on a par with my Feather AS-D1 and Ikon OC, toward the mild end of the spectrum. I had an SB plate some time ago, and found, the same as you, that it was very aggressive, perhaps more so than the R41. I preferred the R41, it was easier to shave with, for me.

A beautiful razor!

Tuesday evening

Tabac Original
RazoRock Plissoft 24mm
Face lather
Muhle R41 head on iKon OSS handle
Gillette Silver Blue
Thayer's Rose Petal and Aloe Vera
Tabac Original after shave

Well, two shaves in with this blade and it may be heading its way to becoming my go-to. I still love the Astra SPs, Nacets, Rubies and 7 o' Clocks; Feathers too. In fact, of all the blades I've tried, only Derbys have proved awful. Even then, that was early days; so it was probably shite technique too.

Anyway, paired with the R41, the only sense I had of mowing down the stubble was the sound. Sharp, smooth and a great result. Three glorious passes. The Tabac, of course, contributed greatly to the proceedings in terms of performance and fragrance.

You know when everything just comes together...?

Pre: Pears Original Transparent
Brush: Semogue 1450 boar
Soap: Palmolive stick cut & fitted to old tub
Blade: Feather AC Pro (2)
Razor: Hawk V2
Post shave: Alum Block, cold water splash, homemade Witch Hazel with Lemon & Lime, Cedarwood, Arabian Musk oil
Balm: Nivea AS balm
A/S: Super-drug Forest Fresh

A nice gentle 2 pass shave WTG & XTG/ATG mix.
I like this Hawk, it seems mild compared to other SE's I have. I have also decided to go for 2 passes only and shave daily as I think the 3rd pass has started some irritation. Even though it lasts a bit longer the irritation starts as my stubble starts to come through? This has not happened with 2 pass shaves & I am still getting a smooth finish although it is not lasting as long.
Lather worked well in the bowl with added Eucalyptus, tea tree and glycerin oils but the little boar brush needs some more breaking in. Refreshed and smelling nice it's now time to chill.
Have a great night all.

I set an hour aside this evening to clean my razors, stripping them down and trying my best to meticulously clean and polish wherever I could. I'm a bit OCD when I comes to razors as I have to wash them down, clean and dry them after every shave however I wanted them to be that bit extra shiny tonight.

It may come as no surprise that the Fatboy came up like a new shiny penny. I was happy it was clean before but stripping it down and cleaning each part gives an odd sense of satisfaction. It honestly looks brand new and it was an easy choice as to what I was using tonight to remove my stubble.

It was loaded with a fresh 7 o'clock Green blade and the OSP Orange and Patchouli soap and aftershave were another easy choice.

An easy 3 pass shave was delivered. The OSP soap is becoming a firm favourite.

A BBS result with the nearly 60 year old razor! Tremendous.

Have a great night folks. [emoji1303]
