SOTD : Saturday 1st - Friday 6th August 2020.

7/8/20
I'd been using Arko for a few days now, with today being the first day I'd used it with a boar brush and from my experiences I get a much better lather with the soap when I use it with a synth, not entirely sure why but it seems slicker with a synth rather than boar, or maybe I need to load more soap? Another good shave with this new blade though, I'm impressed.
I get a different lather with a synthetic brush compared to badger (I don't have a boar). I prefer the badger.

Pre - Shower / Face wash
Cream - GFT Eucris
Brush - New Forest Badger
Razor - Gillette Slim (N2)
Blade - Wilkinson (3)
Post - Alum followed by some moisturiser

A nice comfortable shave with my new acquisition slim. I thought I had a weeper on the first pass, but no evidence after that. Mild feedback from Mr Alum.

I'm intrigued to why some certain brushes work better with certain soaps, but FWIW I think that's what makes this hobby so enjoyable, it's about finding the combinations which the best for you and your skin.
Lovely looking Slim btw, hope you get to enjoy it with more uses.

SOTD 7th August

Lather - Yaqi Sagrada Familia + Stirling Arkadia
Razor - Star Model 100
Blade - Dorco Titan #3
Post - Mennen Skin Bracer + L'Oréal Hydra Sensitive Birch Sap

Another great 3 passes with this sleeper of a blade. Really impressed with this blade, very smooth but mows down the stubble without missing a beat. Razor performed as normal. Smooth but surpridingly close. There was nothing in it when compared to the Tech - both level pegging. Another great lather and another great post shave feel.
Stay safe people and enjoy your shaves and your weekend.

Wickham 1912 Cashmere
Plisson size 12 synthetic
Merkur Progress (2.5-2)
Personna med prep
Nivea 2 Phase asl

A week worth of shaves with the above set up was interesting. Usually, I use a Feather in the Progress which works really well on a setting of 2.5, but with the Personna blade I was getting a couple of nicks per shave in unexpected places. Turning the Progress down to 2 solved the problem. I still think the Feather is sharper, and it works better in the Progress. The Plisson is a wonderful synthetic brush, I can see why it was a game changer when it first came out. The Wickham soaps are one of my favourite, although I have so many...

Cool shower followed by a Cold Water Shave
Soap: Mitchell's Wool Fat
Razor: Stainless Karve C Plate
Blade: Gillette Rubie (3)
Post shave: Cold water Rinse, Witch Hazel
Balm: Barts Balm Lime Lotion & Balm
Aftershave: Mäurer & Wirtz 4711 EDC

I needed that, after a days graft in the Sun a wonderful cool down and shave.
A really easy face lather from the Alpha TI & the "Fat" combo, starting it off in the bowl to even the soap out in the brush, using the rinse water for hydration.
The Karve on a C plate never fails me, no matter what blade i have tried in it, and it really looks good to me. This Rubie is as smooth as butter.
A very nice post shave routine leaving me BBS, soft, comfortable and smelling pretty good too.
Enjoy the rest of your day All.

Please excuse my poor attempt of a photo.
First time with this cream but a good one, more cedarwood than tobacco and performs well.
The TOBS aftershave gel scent is lovely and I might well get some more off this but I'll try a different one.
I think this is the 6th or 7th run out with this blade and it really does a good job with the Rockwell 6S, still plenty of life in her yet. No stinging at all after the Alum rub down. It's Friday and I have a glass of wine. Life's good.

Stay safe everyone. Keep smiling.

For my last (and only second entry) for this week my shave for today was themed 'Irrelevancy'

IMG_20200805_212225.jpg

Fresh fish third stall along - Stainless Razorrock Hawk V3
Those bowls look nice next to each other - Feather Super Professional
Rice? No we only have pasta here - The Groom Room Little whiskey brush
Bus tickets are available over there sir - Signature Soaps Hibernia
Madam! I would be embarrassed to do that in public - Czech and Speake No.88

This is an SOTD which started a few days back, but life kept getting in the way and it never made its way in to presentation by pixels. But, so as not to deny you of some more Japanese adventures in girls and music I thought best I make a late entry in to the week. Better late than never, or so they say. My wife would happily take the never.
Fantastic!

I have enjoyed the Hawk V3 since becoming a smiling happy owner but felt that it was somewhat under-performing on the standard plate. A change of blade to something with a bit more sharpedginess about it (Feather Super Pro) raised the game and delivered pretty damn decent results. Let's be honest this thing cost buttons compared to most other stainless SE's and yet there it is knocking on the door of hero worship.

This week I received a very kind loan of an A-plate from @mpf9ret and for the past three days that is what I have been using. Now this is where the Hawk should be. It is like waving the magic shaving wand and adding touch of shaving fairy dust for good measure. For such a small subtle change the results are astounding. There is a big shift from being mediocre good to being.........fucking good. Read that as 'some good shit'. A phrase which confused the hell out of my Mexican chief cook when I worked in Mexico. Translated in to Spanish it didn't quite carry the same.

There appears to be more feedback and more stability in the shave. I thought the standard had some slight blade chatter which gave an odd sensation as to what was happening at the bit where the blade disappears in to nothingness. Guess I will call it the sharp end, and just the overall performance gave me more confidence in events as against to a slight sense of vagueness.

With the Signature Soaps doing its usual of never letting the side down (an awesome soap in every respect) and the little whiskey brush being a very suitable partner, the lather side of the story was excellently taken care of. Whisk, brush, blade, scent, wow and my recent shaves have been truly wonderful.
'yes, he's been in the bathroom for five bloody hours and to be honest I think I am getting bored of all this. Such a disappointment for a girl'

Have a great weekend all you folk of this shaving forum and just to let you know, but, I love you all

To finish the week with some more of the over-enthusiastic drummer

That is one gorgeous looking brush.

I was wondering how the knot in it, compares to a Tuxedo knot?

1st time use of a Gillette Rubie, paired very nicely with the Stainless Karve to give a very close comfortable shave.
The Faena Soap is very much falling back in favour, a lovely scented thick slick lather started off in the bowl and finished on the face, lovely. the only hydration required was the XS water from the rinse off between passes.
A nice post shave routine leaving me BBS, Comfortable and smelling pretty darn good.

Happy Birthday Paul @pjgh enjoy your night in.

That is one gorgeous looking brush. I've had my eye on that brush a few times, haven't pulled the trigger yet.

I decided last minute to give the T-I a run out this morning, i had given it a few laps on the pasted balsa so i wanted to try it out.
It has been a while since i used the Faena and it whipped up easily to give a lovely face covering.
I completed a full WTG pass with the T-I and although i am getting a shave from it, it really does not feel as smooth as the other Str8 razors i have? It may need to be re-honed, not sure yet?
The next blade from the mixed trial pack in the dispenser was a Muhle, not used them before and will not be buying any, neither smooth or sharp for me, i will give it another run tomorrow.
All a bit Meh! apart from the soap which was a real positive.
Stay Safe and enjoy your day All

If you've got a spare handle, give the G4 knot a try before committing the big money to the Outlaw:

I think it's a good knot.
