Monday, 14 January

PreShave: Warm water
Cream: TOBS Sandalwood
Brush: Kent BK8
Bowl: My recycled cream bowl
Razor: The Sledgehammer (Merkur 39C)
Blade Derby Extra (1)
Post Shave: Alum

Fragrance: none—work day

After testing the Russian blades I bought in '18 (Polsilver, Voskhod and Sputnik), it was time to go back my control group. I last used an Astra—it was fine, just as good as the Sputnik, perhaps as good as the Polsilver and smoother than the Voskhod. Now the Derby. Just as rough as the Voskhold, but less of a BBS shave.

I am now thinking that much of my earlier satisfaction with the Russians was due to confirmation bias.

Friday, 18 January

PreShave: Warm water
Cream: D R Harris Arlington
Brush: eShave Travel;
Bowl: None—face lather
Razor: Merkur 34C—my travel razor
Blade Derby Extra (1)
Post Shave: Alum

Fragrance: none—work day

On the road—back to my travel gear. I find the Derby and the 34C work well together, so a good, smooth shave—works particularly well on the road.

Saturday, 19 January

PreShave: Warm water
Cream: TOBS Platinum Collection
Brush: Kent BK8
Bowl: My recycled cream bowl
Razor: The Sledgehammer (Merkur 39C)
Blade Derby Extra (3)
Post Shave: Alum

Fragrance: Floris 71/72

The blade was a bit rough, so after the shave I put in an Astra tomorrow. This will be part of my next sampling exercise: testing the Astra against a Nacet, Polsilver and Voskhod (with perhaps a 7 O'Clock yellow as well. The nice thing about the hobby it that I can justify (at least to myself) sampling (aka buying) blades and calling it “scientific testing.”

Have a good weekend.

All the best, enjoy the rest of the weekend,

Chris

The Vector looks awesome!

The Vector looks awesome!

It is awesome; it looks small/minimal for a SE; I am convinced the Vector was designed around the blade - keeping the blade as the focus.

I enjoy SE and DE shaving - 2 shaves in, and I think the Vector will be number 1 in my rotation for a while.

My skin still feels ace after the shave. I am lucky to have a few SE razors; the General SS and the Colonial are both excellent razors. Early days; however, I feel the Vector comes out on top for performance and design.

I have not tried the IKon MR-SE, but I have read good reviews.

If you have not yet tried SE shaving, I would give it a try. I got into SE shaving looking at Shave of the Day posts on TSR :)

All the best,

Chris

Saturday 19th January

YaqI Chianti 24mm Synthetic
Meissner TremonIa Exotic Elimi
Tiltshave Bamboo Handle Razor
Vintage Schick (4)
Pinaud Clubman Original ASL

FIrst shave with the Tiltshave razor. (Obtained via BST from @Rohleder)
It shaves like a DE89, and is very light due to the bamboo handle. It's a tad too mild with this blade - didn't shave very close and end result a little patchy (couldn't be bothered chasing BBS)
I imagine a sharper blade would improve its performance.

Thanks for the tag Paul. I expect the lightweight handle doesn't help with the already mild DE89 geometry... I'd be inclined to try a Feather next time ;)

Had my 1st SE shave today with RazoRock's Hawk. Great performance, but I've still a long journey to travel in the world of SEs. I know I'm going to enjoy it.
